Community Conseling Services

Devereux Florida - Community Conseling Services

Devereux Florida’s Counseling Centers provide in-clinic and community-based mental health services. Devereux utilizes the skillful experience of Masters level therapists with professional credentials in psychology, counseling and social work. Devereux therapists are trained in a variety of disciplines such as mental health counseling, social work, psychology and marriage/family therapy and specialize in areas such as sexual abuse, family relations, behavior modification and childhood issues. Psychiatrists are available at each site to provide psychiatric evaluations and medication management when deemed appropriate.

Community-based services are designed to be intensive on-site services offered in home and school settings. On-site services are specifically designed to assist students who may be having severe emotional or behavioral difficulties that impede their ability to function at home, school and in the community. Community-based services are a benefit to families who have limited transportation or who might feel more comfortable receiving services in a familiar environment.

Some of the commonly addressed issues include depression, anxiety, anger management, peer/family relations, child abuse, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Oppositional Defiant Disorder. Services provided include assessment services to determine the client’s specific therapeutic and psychiatric needs; individual, group and family therapy for children, adolescents, adults and families; play therapy; social skills rehabilitation; psychiatric evaluation and medication management; and discharge planning with community resource recommendations to assist in reintegrating the child and family into the community.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy Program is an intensive outpatient program located at the Melbourne Service Center for adolescents and adults who have been diagnosed with disorders such as Borderline Personality Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, PTSD and who are at risk for being placed in a higher-end form of treatment (such as residential) or who are being stepped down from such a treatment. DBT consists of once a week individual therapy and once a week skills group. The skills group is a psycho educational group which is broken down into four modules; Mindfulness Skills, Distress Tolerance Skills, Emotion Regulation Skills, and Interpersonal Effectiveness Skills. The program takes approximately six months to complete, although clients may choose to repeat the program for further reinforcement of skills.
