Foster Care Programs & Services

Devereux Florida’s Foster Care Program serves children in 35 counties throughout the state. Foster care services include intensive clinical intervention, medical foster care and regular foster care.

As part of the Devereux network and continuum of care, our foster care program operates from the ideals that every child deserves a safe and nurturing environment so they have the chance to succeed in life. The goal is to give these children that opportunity, but we need your help.

Traditional Foster Care

Traditional Foster Care Homes serve the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) foster children.

The focus of this service is to ensure that children are provided with a safe and stable home environment, as well as access to school and health services, with the ultimate goal of providing children with a permanent loving home whether with their natural parent or an adoptive family.

Specialized & Therapeutic Foster Care

Many foster children have special needs that extend beyond common troubled children. Devereux Florida’s Specialized and Therapeutic Foster Care serves children ages 5 – 17 with serious emotional disturbance and behavioral problems due to severe trauma in their lives.

Devereux Florida provides continuous training and support for therapeutic foster homes. Training programs are offered to each foster parent to give essential tools to address the needs of the child and cope with difficult issues that might arise. Foster parents are specially trained, receiving 30 hours of clinical training and are supported by a treatment team composed of psychiatrists, therapists, behavioral analysts and case managers, as directed by the treatment team.

Family Care

Devereux Florida’s Family Care Homes provide children and young adults who are intellectually/developmentally disabled (I/DD) an opportunity to reside in a family environment, as opposed to residential treatment and group homes.

With individualized behavior programs, the needs of each individual are addressed by the Family Care parents who are licensed foster parents in the state of Florida.

Safe Foster Homes

For over 30 years in Florida, Devereux has offered a full continuum of services for children who are victims of sexual abuse, sexual trauma and more recently sexual exploitation.

Our DELTA program, an enhanced clinical specialty track, has been specifically designed to address the unique issues related to the commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC). Various levels of services and continuous support are provided to each foster family. Foster families are specially trained, receiving trauma-focused clinical training in the area of sexual exploitation and are directly supported by a treatment team composed of psychiatrists, therapists, behavioral analysts and case managers.
