Getting Started as a Devereux Arizona Foster Parent

How the foster care licensing process works:

Step 1

Schedule a foster care orientation with a Devereux Outreach Specialist. The specialist will explain facts about children in foster care, the qualifications to become a foster parent, how Devereux supports you, and answer any questions or concerns you may have about foster parenting or the licensing process.

Step 2

Enroll in Foster Parent College Pre-Service Training. This 30 hour state mandated course requires completion of four on-line learning modules and five in-person training sessions delivered over four weeks. Devereux provides multiple training offerings and takes a proactive approach in collaborating to meet your scheduling needs should they fall outside of our regularly scheduled offerings. To view our next available classroom offerings, see our training schedule for Phoenix or Tucson. You will also be given paperwork to fill out regarding your background, references, family history, etc.

Step 3

Collaborate with your assigned Devereux Foster Care Specialist who will review your paperwork. Your specialist will also come to your home to complete a home study and preliminary safety inspection. When you feel prepared, the State will conduct the final safety inspection and your foster care application can then been submitted. After the State approves, you will receive your foster care license.
