Getting Started as a Devereux Arizona Foster Parent

How the foster care licensing process works:

Step 1

Schedule a foster care orientation with a Devereux Outreach Specialist. The specialist will explain the facts about the children in foster care, the qualifications to become a foster parent, how Devereux supports you, and answer any questions or concerns you may have about fostering parenting or the licensing process.

Step 2

Enroll in Partnering for Safety and Permanence—Model Approach to Partnerships in Parenting (PSMAPP) classes. PS MAPP classes are 30 hours of state-mandated training. Devereux provides both six and 10 week classes for your convenience. See our training schedule for Phoenix or Tucson for the next available class. You will also be given paperwork to fill out regarding your background, references, family history, etc.

Step 3

Devereux Foster Care staff will review your paperwork and then assign a licensing worker who will help you with additional requirements. Your licensing worker will also come to your home to do a preliminary home study and safety inspection. The State will do the final inspection once you have completed PS MAPP classes and your foster care application has been submitted. After the State approves, you will receive your foster care license.
