Foster Parent Requirements

You can qualify to become a foster parent if you can provide a loving home and:

  • Are at least 21 years of age
  • Are single, married, partnered, or cohabitating
  • Are a legal resident of the United States
  • Are willing to participate in a home study
  • Are knowledgeable, stable, mature, and have nurturing skills
  • Are willing to complete foster parent training
  • Can demonstrate financial security and space in your home
  • Can pass Department of Child Safety (DCS) and criminal background checks
  • Can provide references
  • Own or rent an apartment, house, manufactured, or mobile home
