Youth Profiles
The youth we support may present the following challenges:
- social
or skills deficits
- limited/unhealthy
coping skills
- verbal/physical
aggression
- emotional/behavioral
difficulties impacting overall functioning
Our youth may have experienced severe trauma in their young lives, including physical and sexual abuse, neglect and abandonment. As a result, these youth have complex needs that require highly structured programming and individualized treatment approaches.
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
PBIS is a proactive approach to establishing behavioral supports and social culture needed for youth to achieve social, emotional and academic success. Attention is focused on creating and sustaining multi-tiered systems of support that improve lifestyle results (personal, health, social, family, recreation) for all youth by making targeted misbehavior less effective, efficient, and relevant, and desired behavior more functional. The premise of PBIS is that continual teaching, combined with acknowledgement or feedback of positive behavior will reduce unnecessary discipline and promote a climate of greater productivity, safety and learning. PBIS, in addition with Devereux’s unique training methods, provide children and adolescents ample opportunities to develop their own strengths and learn how to manage one’s own behavior.
