Devereux's Cultural Diversity Expertise Shared at Tucson Career Fair

January 23, 2017, Tucson, AZ--Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health announced today that Yvette Jackson, LMSW and Director of Operations for the Devereux Arizona center will be this year's presenter at the upcoming Tucson HOPE Expo Career Fair on February 21, 2017.  Her presentation, entitled, "Cultural Diversity--Best Practices for Serving Gender Expansive Youth," provides and overview of gender identity and expression and a better understanding of Transgender and Gender Nonconforming People. Henkel volunteers Support Outpatient for the Holidays

Annually, the caring employees of Henkel Corporation volunteer their time helping Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Arizona and those we serve.  For the past several years, Henkel volunteers have helped the residential treatment center by wrapping presents, painting the center, and planting trees and flowers in the garden.  Read more...

Devereux Families Celebrate the Holiday Season

Families and children involved with Devereux's foster care and respite programs in Phoenix gathered together on Saturday, December 3 to celebrate the holidays.  The group was treated to a private showing of Disney's newest movie, "Moana," at Harkins Arizona Mills.  Laughter filled the theater as kids of all ages enjoyed the movie's heartwarming story and music.  Read more...

Western Refining Employees Stuff Stockings for Foster Children

Couple's Wedding Gifts Benefit Tucson's Foster Children

When Melissa Daniels and Michele Anderson decided to tie the knot, they had an unusual request from their guests.  Because the couple had been together for several years, they had asked their guests to not bring gifts.  However, when the majority of guests responded that they were "going to get a gift anyway," the couple was frustrated and came up with a plan.  Read more...

Devereux Kinship Foster Family Featured in West Valley News

David Galiendo decided to become a licensed kinship foster parent to his four grandchildren when he discovered that they were placed in the foster care system.  After researching available agencies, Galiendo selected Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Arizona.  From his first contact with Devereux staff until becoming licensed, Galiendo was pleased with the personal attention, information, resources, training and support he received.  Read the entire West Valley News story...

Phoenix, AZ (August 2016)--Twice this past month, the media requested Devereux's expertise on childhood mental disorders.  Janelle Westfall, clinical director for the Arizona Center, provided Arizona Parenting magazine with an article for their July issue and Channel 15, Phoenix ABC's Lifestyle Program, Sonoran Living, with an interview.

In both pieces, Westfall stresses to parents the importance of realizing they are not alone when faced with their children's diagnosis of a mental disorder.  She also provides answers to commonly asked questions as well as listing the warning signs of suicide.  Read more...

Registration Now Open for REACH Conference 2016

Phoenix, AZ (August 2016)--The third annual REACH Conference will take place on Thursday, August 22, 2016 at the Desert Willow Conference Center, 4340 E. Cotton Center Blvd., Phoenix, Arizona  85040.  Devereux's one-day conference will be kicked off with this year's keynote speaker, Paul LeBuffe, Director of the Devereux Center for Resilient Children in Villanova, Pennsylvania.  Mr. LeBuffe's keynote address will be Building Their Bounce: Promoting the Resilience of Children and Youth.

Dine Out for Devereux Kids!

Tucson, AZ (August 2016)--Devereux's Tucson Advisory Board has created an ongoing fundraiser to raise awareness of Devereux as well as provide additional funds to the Tucson HOPE for children Fund.  The advisory Board is working with local restaurants who are willing to donate a percentage of restaurant sales to our HOPE fund.  The group is in the process of creating a year-round calendar featuring two participating restaurants each month.  The restaurants will be located throughout the city and percentages donated will vary depending on the establishment.  The majority of the restaurants require presenting a Devereux restaurant-specific flyer to qualify for the percentage.

August restaurants include Sauce on Broadway scheduled for August 16 from 1:00am until 9:00pm and U-Swirl on Broadway (3587 East, Suite #115) on August 23rd from 5:00 until 8:00pm.  A calendar with all restaurant locations and downloadable/printable flyer for each restaurant will be available on our website in the near future.

Devereux Respite Provider Featured in Arizona Daily Star

Tucson, AZ (August 2016)--Roseanna Gonzalez was recently the subject of a human interest story written by Johanna Willett, writer for the Arizona Daily Star

Gonzalez was featured because of her amazing selflessness in the Tucson community.  This single mother of five is a special education teacher, volunteer and board member at the Marshall Home for Men.  Gonzalez is also studying to receive her doctorate in organizational leadership in special education.  Amazingly, she also finds time to provide respite for Devereux kids.  Gonzalez was previously a Devereux foster parent and after a short break decided to continue working with foster youth; this time providing a much needed break to foster families.  Read more...

Devereux Parent Aide Program Wins 2016 Best Provider Award

Phoenix, AZ (June 25, 2016)--The Department of Child Safety (DCS) held its statewide provider meeting where child welfare agencies from throughout Arizona met to discuss the safety and well-being of Arizona's children.  In addition, at the May 24th event, DCS handed out awards to recognize those agencies and their staff who have provided outstanding work.  Read more...

May is National Foster Care Awareness Month

May is National Foster Care Awareness Month.  In Arizona, there are approximately 19,000 children in the foster care system.  Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Arizona is a nonprofit organization that recruits, trains and recommends new foster parents for licensure.  The need for more foster parents is outpacing recruitment efforts in Arizona.  Read more...

Foster Care Holiday Parties a Success!

December 2015, Tucson & Phoenix--This year, Devereux Arizona's Foster Care program celebrated the joy of the winter season with holiday parties held in Phoenix on Saturday, December 5 and in Tucson on Sunday, December 6.  In Phoenix, nearly 200 adults and children of all ages enjoyed a day of fun at the Arizona Science Center.  In Tucson, our foster families had an afternoon of fun at Bedroxx Family Fun Center.  Read more...
