Therapeutic Foster Care (Child)

Devereux Arizona’s Therapeutic Foster Care Program serves children ages five to 17 with significant behavioral and emotional needs.  Children are referred to Devereux via Arizona behavioral health networks, and several tribal entities.  Therapeutic foster parents are extensively trained to address children’s intense needs and work with them towards their treatment goals.

Requirements for Therapeutic Foster Care Providers

Therapeutic Foster Care Providers must be at least 21 years old, a legal resident of the United States, and financially stable.  Additionally, they must also:

  • Possess at least one year of experience in foster care, respite or the behavioral health, child welfare, educational or medical fields;
  • A willingness to work as part of the child(ren)’s treatment team, receiving ongoing support from a Devereux Therapeutic Home Specialist;
  • Complete 30 hours of state-required training plus an additional 18 hours of therapeutic foster care training;
  • Demonstrate they have adequate living space
  • Pass Department of Child Safety (DCS) and criminal background checks;
  • Provide five references; Participate in a home study and safety inspection;
  • Obtain a Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card; and
  • Receive CPR and First Aid Certification.
