Faces of ASCEND: Meet Devereux Arizona Program Coordinator Elijah Sanchez

Devereux Arizona Program Coordinator Elijah Sanchez had always dreamed of pursuing higher education. When he learned about Devereux ASCEND, he decided to turn those dreams into a reality.

When Elijah Sanchez joined Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Arizona in 2019, he was looking for “a new opportunity.”

He thrived in his role as a behavior coach, and all those around him took notice. Sanchez was quickly promoted to lead behavior coach, before assuming his current role of program coordinator for Devereux Arizona’s Pima outpatient program in 2021.

“In my role, I support our behavior coaches and coordinate the care of our individuals with their families and external agencies,” Sanchez said. “I complete admission forms and get our kiddos enrolled in our outpatient program, which provides support and guidance to those experiencing behavioral challenges. I also help onboard new employees and run weekly clinical oversight meetings with our coaching team.”

Turning dreams into reality

Throughout his career, Sanchez always dreamed of pursuing higher education. When he learned about Devereux’s ASCEND Career Accelerator Program, he decided to turn those dreams into a reality.

Sanchez is taking advantage of ASCEND’s tuition assistance benefit, which provides team members with financial assistance to help ease the burden of continuing education. Read a previous news article on this topic.

“I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to go to school,” Sanchez shared. “I’m enrolled at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix. I’m pursuing a Bachelor of Science in behavioral health science, with an emphasis on family dynamics.”

Achieving professional goals

By earning a bachelor’s degree, Sanchez hopes to acquire new knowledge and expertise to grow his career at Devereux.

“Devereux Arizona is a family-oriented environment,” Sanchez noted. “I receive so much support – they are always trying to help me improve.”

As for colleagues who may be considering participating in Devereux ASCEND, Sanchez has just two words of advice: “Do it!”
