Devereux New York Children's Services

Devereux New York's intervention programs are structured according to student's chronologic and developmental ages as well as specific treatment considerations. All individuals' programs are behaviorally-oriented, with collateral psychosocial supports to promote goal-attainment and independence.

A multidisciplinary treatment team approach insures the development of realistic goals and objectives in all areas of functioning. All individuals are comprehensively assessed in their initial thirty days of acceptance into the program, and the collected information/data is used to develop an Individualized Service Plan (ISP). Progress reports are issued at the quarterly, semi-annual, and annual points, with specific intensive interventions being monitored even more frequently. An individual's Case Manager coordinates the development, implementation and monitoring of treatment plans/outcome on an ongoing basis throughout the length of the placement.

The therapeutic milieu at Devereux New York embraces a positive approaches philosophy utilizing behavioral interventions at the micro and macro levels. Each individual's treatment is developed in accord with their ISP and may include any combination of the following clinical services:

  • Psychiatric, Psychological, and Educational Services (including pre-vocational and vocational opportunities)
  • Individual and Group Psychotherapies (including skills-building groups as well as more process-oriented groups for specific subpopulations, such as survivors of sexual abuse)
  • Behavioral Management
  • Family Support
  • Life Skills Development
  • Community-based Experiences and Interventions
  • Recreational Therapy
  • Speech, Occupational, and Physical Therapies
  • Medical, Dental and Nutritional Services

2017 Smart Schools Grant allocation information

The Devereux Red Hook School residential campus intends to use its Smart Schools Grant allocation to improve security by installing access control systems to its main entryways throughout school campus buildings. This will entail the installation of updated entryway doors and hardware to integrate with an access control system across our campus. This system will: 1) provide staff with an access card to buildings/areas relevant to their job roles; 2) provide staff with a system to manage access for employees remotely as roles and access needs change; and 3) include the installation of a video intercom system to allow for remote opening of doors and monitoring of visitors to our campus programs. The Red Hook campus currently uses a lock and key system and an employee needs to manually grant access to visitors. By installing these upgrades, Devereux will increase security across its residential school campus, improve staff access to buildings, as well as eliminate risks posed by lost, misplaced or non-returned keys when an employee leaves the agency. This project was developed after careful consideration and review of program needs and includes input from a variety of stakeholders. Devereux New York is fortunate to have been provided with funding from the New York State Education Department in support of these security upgrades. If you have any questions or comments, please contact Devereux New York Executive Director John Lopez at (845) 758-1899.
