Autism Spectrum Disorders

Since its groundbreaking efforts with autism in the 1940s, Devereux Pennsylvania has been a leader in the evolving field of autism services for children and adults. Today, we offer a rich variety of programs to meet the unique needs of each individual and advocate for the continued enrichment of services within the Commonwealth and beyond.

Devereux Pennsylvania’s philosophy for its autism services is the partnership of evidence-based, clinical program models and - just as important - a warm, encouraging and supportive approach.

Tomorrow, Devereux Pennsylvania looks to pioneer new innovations in early intervention, education, parent and staff development, and transitional services that will bring enhanced personal fulfillment, independence and community involvement for individuals of all ages on the autism spectrum.

Children and Adolescents

Devereux Pennsylvania clinicians and educators provide an array of residential and community-based services for children and adolescents diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). These include: Approved Private Schools, assessment, school and family consultation, Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Services (also called “wrap around” services), supported employment, transition services, and residential services. Devereux supports children and adolescents with ASD by helping them develop essential life, communication and social skills, enhancing their quality of life.

Adults

Devereux Pennsylvania provides campus and group home living, supported living, respite care, and life and employment skills training within the community.

Guiding Principles

  • Person-centered: services are individualized and flexible to meet the unique needs of each student/individual.
  • Collaborative: all programs work closely with each individual/family/caregiver, and related community members to maximize each individual's potential.
  • Community-focused: services/supports are delivered in school, community, home and employment settings.
  • Emphasize skill building: skill building that will lead directly to greater independence and success.
  • Enhance self-determination: services and supports that promote each individual’s ability to participate in processes and make decisions that impact their lives.
  • Emphasize quality of life: Quality of life indicators are identified to assist in determining program success, such as satisfaction with school and employment, community integration, social connectedness, and personal autonomy.
  • Accountable and effective: objective data and social validity measures are used to evaluate the effectiveness of evidence-based practices; data-based decision models are used to modify programs when needed.
