Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health is one of the most established and long-standing behavioral healthcare organizations in the nation.

Founded in 1912 by a pioneer in the field,Ms. Helena Devereux believed that every child should be provided with opportunities thatcreate a positive and lasting impact.

For over 35 years in Florida, Devereux has grown from a single residential campus in BrevardCounty, to become one of the state’s most comprehensive nonprofit provider organizations,providing direct support to many of the most vulnerable members of our communities througha broad continuum of programs and services.

Devereux Florida’s Holiday Cheer Campaign provides the opportunity for community partners tojoin the organization-wide objective to create a joyous and meaningful holiday season for all ofthe individuals and families served through Devereux programs.

Devereux Florida serves thousands of children and families each year through a continuum of programs meeting the behavioral health, intellectual/developmental disabilities and child welfare needs in our community.

Unfortunately, the need for services for individuals with mental health issues and intellectual/developmental disabilities continues to grow at a dramatic rate. Many of the families we serve rely on community support to provide for their needs and the needs of their children. Devereux is devoted to helping children and families reach their goals but we can't do it alone. With your help we can make a difference in their lives today and for many years to come.

Internships & Volunteer Opportunities

Clinical Internships

Our highly experienced clinical team provides the guidance interns need as they prepare for the role as a behavioral health professional. Interns work with programs consistent with their training needs, professional goals and personal interests.

Internship & Practicums Offered

Social work programs
Doctoral psychology program
Behavioral analysis programs

Qualifications

Field placements are expected to last at least two semesters. Our licensing regulations require extensive onboarding activities for anyone working with children. Because of this, Devereux Florida is unable to accommodate students seeking short internships and practicums.

Program requirements are also a determining factor. Students who have not yet completed a graduate program in a mental health field are not able to provide therapy services to the children we serve. If you have not completed at least a master’s degree and your program requires that you perform individual, group or family therapy, we will not be able to accommodate you for an internship.

External Affairs Internships

Our Department of External Affairs Department is accepting internship applicants for field experience in the areas of marketing, communications and non-profit advocacy. Interested applicants must be willing to commit to a minimum of 6 months of intern experience.

Throughout the year Devereux needs volunteers to help us accomplish several initiatives to support our children and community.
