CARES School - Center for Autism Resources and Education Services
Devereux CARES School provides state-of-the-art elementary and secondary school education services for children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities. We support our students with an integrated curriculum that focuses on functional and pro-social skill development and community based experiential learning.
CARES is a day school for students ages eight to 21 who require a small classroom setting and specialized instruction. With six students per class, one teacher and two teacher aides, CARES provides an environment to address each student’s unique strengths and needs.
An after school component also is available.

This expertise translates into an advanced approach to caring for each student. At CARES School, a talented team of educators and clinicians work together to develop a comprehensive educational program. Our special education teachers are supported by teacher aides, and our team of professionals also includes: psychologists, clinical coordinators, nurses, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and a vocational coordinator.
We believe in strong collaboration through frequent, informal communication between families/caregivers and the CARES team. Meetings will be scheduled to discuss Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), futures planning and quality improvement.
CARES School offers an elementary track (ages nine to 12) and a high school program for adolescents and young adults (ages 13 to 21). With a strong transitional component, the emphasis for high school students is to build skills that can lead to greater independence. The focus is on advancement to potential employment or higher education, based on the specific goals of the student.
Our After School Program reinforces skills and community involvement.
