Georgia leaders appointed to state-wide committees to improve lives

Devereux Georgia’s leadership team is working to enhance the lives of its citizens, while boosting the organization’s visibility in the Peach State.

In late July, Devereux Vice President of Operations Gwen Skinner and Devereux Georgia Medical Director Dr. Yolanda Graham were asked to participate on the following committees focused on specific state-wide health care issues:

  • Gwen Skinner named to Division of Family and Children Services team: Georgia Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) Commissioner Bobby Cagle recently asked Skinner to serve on a team that will work to improve the lives of Georgia’s most vulnerable citizens by creating a new narrative for the state’s child welfare system.

Through the DFCS’ new “State of Hope Statewide Design Team,” Skinner said the group will: “take a focused and collaborative approach to create an innovative, community-led framework to implement changes that will bring us closer to achieving a ‘state of hope’ for safe children, strengthened families and a stronger Georgia.” The effort also will focus on building a robust workforce, developing and sustaining strong practices, and engaging agency staff and the community.
  • Yolanda Graham appointed to health committee to examine access to care: Georgia House Speaker David Ralston has appointed a committee to examine access to health care. The committee includes high-ranking members of the House and well-known medical professionals – including Graham –who have experience with various healthcare issues affecting Georgians. According to a recent article on AJC.com, the committee was created to, “examine public policy related to the quality and availability of health care in Georgia for a broad range of medical conditions.” Click here to learn more.

Congratulations to Skinner and Graham on these important appointments!
