Devereux heroes: Teachers and nurses honored in May

Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health employs nearly 250 teachers/special education teachers and more than 300 nurses who make a significant impact on the lives of tens of thousands of children, adolescents and adults – and family members -- served by the organization.

While Devereux strives to recognize all employees year-round, it’s especially gratifying to focus on these critical contributors during the following national annual observances:

  • National Nurses Week: May 6-12
  • Teacher Appreciation Week: May 7-11

During these weeks, hospitals, schools – and Devereux locations across the country – will recognize and show their appreciation for nurses and teachers. At Devereux, we’ll also post special messages about these amazing individuals on our Twitter, Facebook Careers and LinkedIn pages.

“Our nurses and teachers are the epitome of our mission – to unlock and nurture human potential for people living with emotional, behavioral or cognitive differences,” said Devereux Vice President of Human Resources Tim Dillon. “We could not do the work we do without their valuable contributions, and we’re so proud to have such committed professionals on our team. They are literally life-changing for the children, adolescents and adults we care for every day.”

National Nurses Week: May 6–12

Cool fact: According to the American Nurses Association (ANA), the public has rated nursing as the most honest and ethical profession for the past 16 years.

The first National Nurses Week was celebrated in 1954, and this year’s theme is “Inspire, Innovate, Influence.” ANA states that activities will revolve around nursing innovation and how all nurses can “unleash their own inner innovator” and help further transform health care.

National Teacher Appreciation Week: May 7–11

We agree with the National Parent Teacher Association: Teachers change the lives of millions of children every day, and their work and impact extends far beyond the boundaries of the classroom. That’s why this year’s Teacher Appreciation Week theme is “V.I.T. – Very Important Teacher,” so we can all pay homage to teachers in a variety of settings.

So be sure to show your appreciation and #ThankATeacher during this special week.
