Devereux Texas Awarded $50,000 Rebuild Texas Fund Grant

Funds to Provide Advanced-Level Trauma Training

League City, Texas – May 2, 2018 – Improved resources will soon be available for those suffering and recovering from trauma, thanks to a financial contribution to Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Texas.

In late April, the Texas Center for Child and Family Studies (“the Center”), in partnership with the Rebuild Texas Fund, named the nonprofit a $50,000 recipient of its Rebuild Texas Fund Grant.

Rebuild Texas Fund grants aid organizations to support the tremendous needs and challenges facing Texas’ most vulnerable children and families impacted by Hurricane Harvey, Katie Olse, Executive Director of Texas Alliance of Child and Family Services, as well as the Center, said in a Center news release.

For Devereux Texas, the $50,000 infusion will help implement the Devereux Texas Enhanced Trauma Informed Care project, a specialized training program aimed at arming clinicians and staff members to handle advanced-level trauma support.

Devereux Texas team members already undergo extensive training, but certain trauma — such as that experienced during a natural disaster — often requires enhanced care, said Devereux Texas Executive Director, Pam Reed.

“When you’re working with people who lost their homes, or who were left scared and in the dark as to their loved ones’ whereabouts, that has a real and lasting impact,” she said. “That is especially true for individuals with existing mental health issues. Our goal is to make sure every member of our staff is providing the strongest possible support to those in need.”

The Texas Center for Child and Family Studies has worked to mobilize programs and services that not only mitigate hurricane-induced trauma, but also increase capacity and services for foster care children, Neeraj Aggarwal, with the Rebuild Texas Fund, said in the news release.

“By leveraging the experience of these local organizations, the needs of Texas’ most vulnerable children and families impacted by Hurricane Harvey can be addressed in positive and far-reaching ways,” Aggarwal said.

In total, the Center awarded more than $700,000 from the Rebuild Texas Fund to 12 organizations. The Center will monitor and oversee grant recipients’ ongoing work.
