Nadyia Abbas

Devereux Massachusetts and Rhode Island Executive Director Nadyia Abbas, M.A., CAGS, LMHC, LADC-I, was recently elected to the Children’s League of Massachusetts Board of Directors.

Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Massachusetts and Rhode Island Executive Director Nadyia Abbas, M.A., CAGS, LMHC, LADC-I, was recently elected to the Children’s League of Massachusetts (CLM) Board of Directors.

CLM is a nonprofit organization committed to promoting the welfare of children and families in Massachusetts by influencing public policy.

“I’m am honored to serve on the CLM board,” said Abbas. “Devereux is a proud and active longtime member of CLM, whose public education and advocacy have profound and far-reaching impacts on the well-being of children and families. In my role as executive director, there have been times when I have turned to CLM to better understand and more effectively advocate on policy initiatives, including budget, legislative and administrative issues. Through this process, I have had an opportunity to witness the power that our collective voice has among policymakers, and the difference we can make by working together.”

Advocating for those in need

As a board member, Abbas will work collaboratively to advocate for the welfare of children and families in need.

“There are children in our care who face significant systemic barriers,” Abbas noted. “CLM plays an important role in such situations. Through a collective voice and joined advocacy efforts, we can address and remedy those barriers on behalf of the individuals we serve. CLM ensures that the expertise of providers and the voices of our individuals inform our decisions and direction. Looking toward the future, we will continue to advocate for state budget increases to support children and families across a broad spectrum of services, including congregate care and education. We also will continue to assess for systemic gaps that prevent children and families from receiving much-needed services and benefits.”

About CLM

CLM is comprised nearly 60 private and public organizations and individuals. Through public education and advocacy, the organization promotes the availability, accessibility and quality of services for children and families. CLM serves as a:

  • Forum for the exchange of information and ideas among members
  • Vehicle for keeping the focus on the needs of children and families
  • Powerful source for common action
