Get to know our Residential Programs

Overview

With 70 group homes located throughout the state, Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health New Jersey’s community-based residential programs provide a variety of living options for nearly 300 adults with emotional, behavioral and cognitive differences.

Our supportive and highly-trained staff identify the strengths and needs of each individual, and implement a structured treatment plan to help those in our care lead more independent, fulfilling and socially-connected lives.

Community Inclusion

Our residential programs are designed to foster community inclusion. We help individuals build relationships and integrate into the community by participating in various social and recreational activities. Program staff support residents as they enjoy trips to restaurants, movies, parks and community events. Our person-centered approach ensures each individual has regular and ongoing access to the outings and activities of his or her choice.

As partners in the care of your loved one, we encourage family visits and short trips home. Team members will work with you to transport your loved one to birthday parties, holiday gatherings and other events outside of our program as needed. We also provide transportation to and from medical and dental appointments.

Clinical Services

Residential program staff, together with our clinical team of Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), implement the Devereux Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (D-PBIS) framework, which promotes the reduction of challenging behaviors through the encouragement of active engagement and positive feedback.

In addition to D-PBIS training, team members are required to complete the Department of Developmental Disabilities’ overview training, as well as training related to medication and administration; and preventing abuse, neglect and exploitation. In addition, all employees participate in year-round ongoing education with our learning team to stay updated on the latest care and treatment models. Our staff is also trained in CPR, first aid and Safe and Positive Approaches.

I/DD Community Services

A Community Focus...

Each Devereux New Jersey Treatment Network program helps individuals understand the meaning and value of community life. Our programs involve all individuals in community activities, such as volunteer work and vocational projects. These efforts are designed to integrate them as much as possible into their communities.

Therapeutic Services

Depending on the program within the network, a variety of services may be provided, which could include the provision of Applied Behavior Analysis, psychological services, speech and language therapy, medical care, psychiatric services, as well as occupational and physical therapy.

Community-based Living

In community-based group homes throughout the state, residents learn life skills designed to increase their ability to live as independently as possible in the community. Each home/apartment is shared by two to five adults of similar age and interests.

Our goal is to provide each individual with the opportunity to develop their greatest level of independence and community integration, while residing within the community. The individuals in our community-based program are given the opportunity to adapt, grow socially, and take responsibility and ownership for their community and living environment. We teach social interaction skills through modeling, positive reinforcement and redirection to overcome any challenges the individuals may experience in dealing with the outside community.

Apartment/Group Home Living

Aspen Hill Tanyard

Aspen Hill is a supervised apartment setting where individuals are more independent.

The Tanyard group home is also for individuals who are more independent.

Warren Potsdam

Warren serves individuals who have behavioral and dually diagnosed needs.

Potsdam is our home for individuals who require more support, have minimal behaviors and are less active.

Shelly Chestnut

Shelly and Chestnut's individuals have varied needs, although most Chestnut individuals are on the autism spectrum.
