How do you embed an inclusive, Servant Leadership mindset into your daily processes?

I embed Servant Leadership into my everyday processes by placing service first and foremost in my leadership philosophy. During every interaction, I ask myself how it will contribute to our mission. By maintaining self-awareness and humility, I aim to be a positive contributor to the success of every person and task.

How do you inspire others to embrace Servant Leadership practices?

The adage “actions speak louder than words” is what I live and lead by. There is no task too large or too small. I inspire the servant leader in others, not by showing them how brilliant I am, but by showing them how brilliant they are.

In 2022, during Direct Support Professional Recognition Week, I wanted to show appreciation for all of our youth care professionals. The challenge I faced was ensuring the night shift staff felt the same level of appreciation as the day shift. Our culminating event consisted of a meal prepared by our support staff and an awards ceremony. All three shifts were served their meals and presented with certificates. That evening from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m., myself and a team of dedicated support staff came in to serve the night shift a warm dinner and present them with their awards. The positive response from our youth care professionals was amazing, and made the late night worth it.
