How do you embed an inclusive, Servant Leadership mindset into your daily processes?

I try to treat everyone with kindness and respect. It is important when working with the individuals in our care that we treat them as a person first, and are compassionate toward their needs. I help colleagues by collaborating on ideas and assisting them with daily tasks to make sure we are best prepared to support our individuals.

How do you inspire others to embrace Servant Leadership practices?

I inspire others by encouraging collaboration and assisting staff. I am always ready and willing to help, with the hope of inspiring all those around me to do the same. Our job is essential, and team members need to work together to create the biggest benefit for our individuals. I encourage positivity and remind staff of our mission to help others by demonstrating compassion, collaboration and dedication. Working at Devereux has made me realize my passion for working with individuals with autism, and has inspired me to go back to school to earn a master’s degree in applied behavior analysis.

Every day, I strive to create a positive environment in which our students can learn. I help them work toward their goals and celebrate all of their accomplishments, no matter how large or small. If a student feels distressed, I work quickly with colleagues to provide that student with what they need. One of the students in our room experiences anxiety. I take time to sit and talk with him to ease his stress. I get on his level, and let him know that there are people there for him, and there is no reason to worry.
