Devereux Arizona awarded $25,000 grant to support victims of child sex trafficking

Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Arizona was recently awarded a $25,000 grant to support the organization’s Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) program.

The grant, from the Diane and Bruce Halle Foundation, will be used to train Devereux Arizona’s approximately 400 employees, including direct support professionals, teachers, clinicians, nurses, as well as their supervisors, on how to identify, assess and assist youth, ages 5 to 17, who have experienced emotional, physical and sexual trauma as a result of commercial sexual exploitation.

“Thanks to the incredible generosity of the Diane and Bruce Halle Foundation, all of our existing team members, as well as our new hires, will be better able to care for children and adolescents who are victims of sexual exploitation,” said Devereux Arizona Executive Director Yvette Jackson, LMSW, DBH. “Our ultimate goal is to grant hope and healing to the individuals we serve, and support them on their path to a healthier, happier life.”

Educating staff; supporting survivors

Devereux Arizona offers individual and group therapy to address the complex trauma of sexually exploited youth.

Funds from this grant will be used to purchase CSEC training materials and youth assessments for Devereux Arizona staff, as well as educational materials and other resources for children and adolescents enrolled in the CSEC program.

“Devereux Arizona serves more than 4,500 individuals each year, but it is impossible to accurately determine how many have experienced commercial sexual exploitation until all of our staff are equipped to recognize the signs and symptoms of trauma,” Jackson explained. “This grant will enable us to combat this form of modern-day slavery by educating our staff and providing youth with the tools needed to safely and successfully reintegrate into their families and communities – and thrive.”
