Dr. Barry McCurdy leads development of award-winning video on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports

Devereux Center for Effective Schools Director Barry McCurdy, Ph.D., NCSP, BCBA-D, led the development of an award-winning video that highlights the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports framework.

Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Center for Effective Schools Director Barry McCurdy, Ph.D., NCSP, BCBA-D, recently led the development of an award-winning video on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports as a member of the Association for Positive Behavior Support (APBS) Board of Directors.

In May, the video “Positive Behavior Support at Home” won the Gold Telly Award in the Online/General Information category. This video highlights the PBIS framework – which promotes the reduction of challenging behaviors through the encouragement of positive behaviors – being applied at home.

This was one of three videos developed by McCurdy and his team at APBS, and produced by Trifoia video production company, demonstrating PBIS being applied in the following environments: 1) homes, 2) schools and 3) communities. Visit APBS’ website to view all three of the videos > scroll down until you see “An Overview of Positive Behavior Support.”

“I am thrilled our video won this award. This was a collaborative effort between APBS and Trifoia,” said McCurdy. “We wanted to create these videos to educate the public about PBIS, a system of support we are committed to implementing in all Devereux programs. PBIS promotes a culture of safe, caring and preventative practices intended to help all persons, youth and adults alike, learn, grow and thrive.”

In a recent email, APBS President Rose Iovannone encouraged members to view and share the videos. “These videos can be a great way to introduce positive behavior support to colleagues, other professionals, families, friends and acquaintances,” she noted.
