Devereux Georgia program manager awarded prestigious Weaver E. Falberg fellowship

Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Georgia Program Manager Tracy Reed was recently awarded Devereux’s 2019 Weaver E. Falberg Leadership Promise Fellowship Award, which recognizes an employee’s commitment to the organization’s mission, along with his or her outstanding leadership capability and potential.  

Reed will receive a $30,000 scholarship to obtain her master’s degree in social work from Kennesaw State University, and acquire her license as a clinical social worker.

Reed and two runners-up, Adrianne Bell and Aleisa Sells, were honored for their achievements during an awards dinner in November with Devereux’s national Board of Trustees, members of the organization’s senior leadership team, and members of the Devereux Pennsylvania Advisory Board.

Bell, an admissions specialist for the Devereux Pennsylvania Children’s Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Services (CIDDS) center’s Philadelphia foster care program, will receive a $20,000 fellowship to earn a Master of Business Administration in organizational leadership from Eastern University. Sells, a case coordinator at Devereux Colorado, will receive a $10,000 fellowship to pursue her Master of Social Work at the University of Denver.

Clark II. “These servant leaders embody what this award is all about by advancing our mission and core values on a daily basis – earning the respect and admiration of their colleagues, and those in their care.”  

Achieving dreams through continuous education

Reed joined Devereux Georgia in 2000 as a direct care professional, before being promoted to program supervisor in 2004 and program manager in 2010. As program manager, Reed oversees a team of direct care staff who serve and support adolescent girls struggling with severe mental health challenges.  

Reed earned her Associate of Science in early childhood education from Atlanta Metropolitan State College in 2004 and her Bachelor of Science in sociology from the University of West Georgia in 2008. She plans to enroll in Kennesaw State University’s Master of Social Work program in 2020. 

“I am eternally grateful to Devereux for providing me with the opportunity to further my education, and my colleagues in Georgia for their continued support and encouragement,” explained Reed. “With my master’s degree, I plan to become a licensed social worker, helping victims of child sex trafficking. I hope to increase my knowledge of mental health disorders as it relates to the commercial sexual exploitation of children and work to develop new and enhanced treatment approaches.”  

About the Weaver E. Falberg award …

Established in 1989 by Devereux’s national Board of Trustees, the Weaver E. Falberg Leadership Promise Fellowship Award honors the memory of Weaver E. Falberg, who served as board chairman from 1983 to 1991.   

Award recipients receive financial assistance for the purpose of furthering his or her education and training, and to assist in strengthening leadership capabilities. Fellowship funds are used for degree completion, certificate programs and executive or leadership development programs.
