Arizona Center for Resilient Children

In 2010, Devereux Arizona began working with staff from the Devereux Center for Resilient Children (DCRC) with the goal of becoming a satellite Center for Resilient Children. Through close collaboration, consultation and training, Devereux Arizona has successfully incorporated several DCRC resources within many of our existing programs. Expert staff at the national Devereux Center for Resilient Children continue to mentor, coach and train Devereux Arizona team members on new tools and resources to support the mission of DCRC within the state of Arizona.

DCRC's mission is to promote social and emotional development, foster resilience and build skills for school and life success in children birth through school-age, as well as to promote the resilience of the adults who care for them.

DCRC tools and resources that are utilized at Devereux Arizona include:

DESSA

The Devereux Student Strengths Assessment (DESSA) is a comprehensive system that supports universal screening, assessment, intervention planning, progress monitoring and outcome evaluation in the social-emotional domain. The DESSA is designed to help schools meet emerging social-emotional learning standards. Currently, Devereux Arizona uses the DESSA in our therapeutic foster care and outpatient counseling programs.

Socially Strong, Emotionally Secure

Devereux Arizona has incorporated the strategies and activities in Socially Strong, Emotionally Secure to provide foster parents, parent educators, teachers and parent aides with the tools they need to help families and children become socially and emotionally healthy for life.

Building Your Bounce

Devereux Arizona utilizes Building Your Bounce with our foster families, parent educators and parent aides. This resource provides reflective readings, activities, journaling and written responses, which can help caregivers uncover strategies for strengthening relationships, initiative, internal beliefs and self-control.

FLIP IT

Devereux Arizona uses Flip It with our direct care staff, foster parents, parent educators and parent aides. This resource is designed to support all adults who interact with young children, and provides caregivers with four simple steps to transform challenging behavior in young children. Teachers and parents can help children learn about their feelings and gain self-control by using the mnemonic: Feelings, Limits, Inquiries and Prompts.
