Comprehensive Diagnostic ServicesDevereux Massachusetts and Rhode Island offers comprehensive diagnostic services by a team of doctoral-level psychology interns, practicum students and doctoral-level psychologists. All diagnostic services are provided under the supervision of a licensed clinical psychologist. Referral ProcessRequests for testing can be made through the individual’s school district, at admissions by the funding sources, or by request through the individual’s clinician. Priority is given to referrals through the school district and at admission. Internal referrals are subject to availability based on the number of referrals and diagnosticians available. 90-Day AssessmentsThe average length of completion time is 90 days from the start of an assessment. If there is a waiting list, we will advise you upon referral. Comprehensive Diagnostic EvaluationsThese assessments are requested at intake by funders in the form of a 90-day diagnostic evaluation, or by the clinician or treatment team as an internal referral. These comprehensive evaluations occur over a 90-day period, and include formal observation, as well as testing. The student individual also receives a psychiatric evaluation during this time. At the conclusion of the 90-day period, a formal report is prepared. A feedback meeting occurs to present findings and recommendations for a wide variety of challenges, including, but not limited to: complex and developmental trauma, significant psychiatric diagnoses, and deficits in reality testing and personality dysfunction. Assessments include the following, but vary based on the referral request and the student individual’s needs:
45-Day AssessmentsThese assessments are usually requested by the school district and occur at admission. The student individual is referred for a 45-day assessment or extended evaluation to clarify diagnosis and provide recommendations for future placement. These assessments typically include the following, but vary based on the referral request and the student’s needs:
Triennial (3-Year) EvaluationsThree year re-evaluations are requested by the school district to determine special education eligibility, and include the following:
Additional assessments, including adaptive functioning assessments, as well as classroom observations and comprehensive psychological assessments, can be requested by the district. Specialized AssessmentsThe diagnostic team offers specialized assessments for autism spectrum disorders. In addition to, and including, many of the measures listed on this page, the diagnostician will administer and provide recommendations based on the following assessments:
