Verizon funding supports Devereux Pennsylvania's transition education curriculum

Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Pennsylvania was recently presented with a $15,000 donation from the Verizon Foundation to support “transition-to-work” programs at its Children’s Intellectual / Developmental Disabilities Services (CIDDS) and Children’s Behavioral Health Services (CBHS) centers.

“This contribution is incredibly important to supporting transition-related educational curriculum in our five Approved Private Schools in Pennsylvania,” said Devereux National Development Director Antonia Allsman. “One of the greatest concerns to our families – especially those with children on the autism spectrum – is what will happen to their children when their schooling is complete. Verizon’s generosity supports our programs and services, which are tailored to the unique needs of each individual in our care based on diagnosis. These programs help build the skills needed to help our youth find meaningful employment or volunteer opportunities as adults.”

Thanks to generous donations from companies like Verizon, Devereux’s transition-to-work programs have enhanced daily living skills and job training for more than 375 students.

A strong supporter of education

Verizon was introduced to Devereux in 2014 by State House Representative The Honorable Warren Kampf, who is concerned about issues facing individuals with cognitive, emotional and behavioral differences.

As a result, Devereux has received a total of $50,000 from Verizon over the past three years, thanks, in part, to the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program – a tax credit program for Pennsylvania businesses that provide funding to selected charities and schools.

“The Verizon Foundation is proud to continue its support of Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health,” said Verizon Director of Pennsylvania Government Relations Frank Buzydlowski. “It has been a privilege to meet the children and youth who have benefitted from our support of the transition-to-work programs, as well as the men and women who dedicate their lives to serving some of the most vulnerable children in our area. We know our contributions have, and will continue, to change lives every day.”
