Community-Supported Employment

Available to residents of Chester, Delaware and Montgomery Counties

The goal of our Community-Supported Employment (CSE) program is to achieve independence that is appropriate and comfortable for each individual within his/her community-based employment position by using natural supports. As the individual develops confidence and acquires the skills needed to maintain employment, job coaching can be reduced and eliminated when appropriate.

Job assessments are conducted to identify individualized strengths, weaknesses and preferences of the individual. Employment specialists work with individuals on resume building, interview skills and social interactions. Job coaches also help these individuals maintain their employment. Ongoing communication between the employment specialist and employer help determine any problems or issues an individual may encounter while working.

The CSE program’s primary funding is provided through the Adult Autism Waiver, ACAP, OBRA, Consolidated Waiver-P/FDS Waiver and Base funding for individuals with residential placement. Private pay is also accepted. CSE staff can assist in securing funding for eligible individuals.

Our individuals are currently working in a variety of work settings, including:

  • Acme Markets Paoli and Devon
  • Chester County Animal Hospital
  • Conner-Williams Nursing Home Ridley Park
  • CPCU King of Prussia
  • Fair Acres Geriatric Center Lima

  • Patty Mac's Cafe Berwyn
  • Rite Aid Pharmacy Devon and King of Prussia

Community Outreach Program

At Devereux Pennsylvania’s Adult Services center, our team is focused on providing individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities the opportunity to become productive and socially-connected members of society. Through our Community Outreach program, Devereux partners with local businesses to provide employment and training programs to the individuals we serve every day. These partnerships help our adults build the necessary skills to prepare for competitive employment in today’s workforce.

Look below to find out where our individuals are making an impact:

  • Food Harvest Program - Our individuals work with restaurants and retailers -including Wawa, Outback and Starbucks - to deliver food to nearly 20 churches and shelters in Chester, Delaware and Montgomery Counties. Food from each of these establishments is donated directly to the program, never having been for sale or stored.
  • Chester County Food Bank (CCFB) - Our Community Outreach Program supports CCFB members, including the Salvation Army, Home of the Sparrow and Laurel House. The CCFB relies on our individuals to help deliver donated food to more than 200 people on a monthly basis.
  • Surrey Services in Devon - Several adults we serve are enrolled in Surrey’s “Future Chefs” program where they learn skills such as: food handling, clean-up, serving and teamwork.
  • Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Brandywine - Our individuals learn to care for animals up for adoption by walking, interacting with and cleaning animal habitats.
  • The Devon Horse Show - In 2017, our individuals managed a vending area at this prestigious event, giving them a chance to operate as a small business for the day.
