Devereux Therapeutic Foster Care Requirements
Therapeutic foster care providers must be at least 21 years of age, a legal resident of the United States and be financially stable.
- To be licensed as a Therapeutic Child provider, minimum eligibility requirements:
- One year of foster parent experience or a bachelor’s degree in a related field, or three months of professional experience in a related profession (with the responsibility of caring for someone with behavioral health needs for at least 20 hours per week)
- To be licensed as a Therapeutic Adult provider, minimum eligibility requirements:
- Three months of professional experience in a related profession (with the responsibility of caring for someone with behavioral health needs for at least 20 hours per week)
In addition, both Child and Adult Therapeutic providers must:
- Have a willingness to work as part of a treatment team
- Complete pre-licensure annual training requirements
- Obtain/pass a fingerprint clearance and various background checks
- Possess homeowner’s or renter’s insurance
- Provide personal references
- Pass a home study and safety inspection
- Obtain a physical exam
- Own or lease an operable vehicle and possess a valid driver’s license, vehicle registration and insurance
- Own or rent an apartment, house, manufactured home or mobile home with adequate living space. In the adult program, the home must have a semi-private yard area.
- Receive CPR/First Aid Certification
