National Adoption Month: Providing youth with love, support and a sense of belonging“Every child deserves to feel safe, secure and loved – they need nurturing and the unwavering support of caring adults who will champion their well-being and help them reach their full potential.” According to the most recent Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System data, there are more than 368,000 children in foster care in the U.S., and more than 108,000 children waiting to be adopted (more than 14,000 are 15 to 17 years old). Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health is proud to work with foster and adoptive families to help children with emotional, behavioral and cognitive differences find stable and nurturing homes where they can heal and grow. “National Adoption Month is incredibly important because it not only celebrates the families who have flourished through adoption, but it also shines a light on the thousands of children across the U.S. who are still waiting to find a family of their own,” said Fernandes. “Devereux’s foster and adoptive families are selfless individuals. Their commitment and compassion are nothing short of inspiring and transformative to our youth in their care. We can offer children a chance to heal by connecting them with families who will provide care and comfort and help them build a brighter tomorrow.” 2024 National Adoption Month campaignEach year, the Children’s Bureau – part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services – launches a National Adoption Month campaign to highlight the need to find permanent homes for children in the U.S. foster care system. This year’s theme – “Honoring Youth: Strengthening Pathways for Lasting Bonds” – focuses on identifying adoptive families for older youth and emphasizes the importance of lifelong connections for these individuals. “Young people deserve a strong support network that meets their needs, embraces and affirms their identity, and promotes family, community and cultural connections,” explained Children’s Bureau Commissioner Rebecca Jones Gaston in a message announcing the 2024 theme. “Supportive relationships act as a protective factor that can contribute to improved well-being outcomes.” Open your heart and home today! At Devereux, we believe every child deserves a loving family and a positive home environment to help them thrive. Our foster care services are offered in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts and Rhode Island and New Jersey. If you are interested in embarking on the journey of a lifetime and changing a life, Devereux seeks a diverse pool of foster parents/providers who reflect our diverse clientele. Fernandes noted, “Families who open their hearts and homes to children in need are heroes in every sense of the word, offering a fresh start and a sense of worth and belonging. These families are proof that one person can make a difference.” Learn more about Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health’s foster care services, and how to become a foster parent/provider.
