As Director of Administrative Services at Devereux Pennsylvania Children’s Services, Scott Carter, M.S.S.E., EMT, not only provides oversight of the facilities and food services divisions, and assists in coordinating special projects, but he also is committed to strengthening community relationships.

Katrina and Melvin Jones became therapeutic foster parents with Devereux New Jersey in 2008. Since that time, they have fostered 25 children, including three currently. In 2012, they adopted their first foster child, Dennis, and then, in 2019, they adopted three other children, all brothers, Lavion, Demetrius and Dayshawn.

For nearly five years, Amy Sieberer and her husband, Eric, say Devereux Pennsylvania Children’s Services provided their son, Jason, with the therapeutic support he needed to achieve greater independence and thrive. In May 2023, Jason graduated from the Devereux School for Integrated Learning and was discharged to a lower level of care.

Devereux Arizona Accounts Receivable Specialist Team Lead Kagen Leva was 37 years old when he came out as transgender. Leva, who was working at Devereux Pennsylvania’s Children’s Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Services center (now Devereux Pennsylvania Children’s Services) at the time, describes it as a “sudden realization.”

The PLEA Agency, a nonprofit mental health and education provider offering treatment, care and community-based services to individuals living with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities and behavioral health challenges, has announced it will become an affiliate of Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health.

In 1972, fresh out of college with a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education, and a desire to support students with disabilities, Doug Bitner accepted a position at Devereux Pennsylvania. In 2022, Bitner, who now works part time as a training specialist at Devereux Pennsylvania Children’s Services, celebrated 50 years with the organization.

Patricia Armellini, who receives services through Devereux Pennsylvania, wears many hats in her day-to-day life. She is a dog owner, artist and retail employee. Devereux Pennsylvania — Adult Services Executive Director Christopher Betts, M.A., was recently selected to serve on the Pennsylvania Joint State Government Commission’s Advisory Committee on the Delivery of State Services Relating to Autism, Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.

“Devereux taught me that I am appreciated and that I do matter,” said Shante Chapman, a former Devereux Day School student. When Shante was younger, she was labeled a “brawler” who was prone to bouts of anger and fighting. After her freshman year in high school, she and her family made the decision to continue her high school education at the Devereux Day School in Pennsylvania.
