Devereux Florida’s Dr. Manal Durgin named one of Orlando Family Magazine’s ‘Super Women’

Devereux Florida Medical Director Manal Durgin, M.D., was recently selected as one of Orlando Family Magazine’s 2021 “Super Women.”

Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Florida Medical Director Manal Durgin, M.D., was recently selected as one of Orlando Family Magazine’s 2021 “Super Women.”

Each year, the magazine honors women who are helping to make central Florida a better place by “standing up for what they believe in; assisting people in need; and trying to lift up others.”

Dr. Durgin was named a “super woman” as a result of her 20-plus years of behavioral healthcare experience in the state.

“I was equally surprised and honored to be acknowledged among so many dedicated women doing incredible things to help people,” said Dr. Durgin. “I try to motivate and support my team by: leading by example; listening and honoring input from all levels of staff; and gaining an understanding and/or perspective of what the individuals and families I serve, as well as my colleagues may be experiencing. I find this to be an effective tool for inspiring others to consider a similar approach – which benefits us all.”

Going above and beyond

Orlando Family Magazine noted Dr. Durgin “often goes beyond the call of duty, providing classes to community foster care providers; providing consultation to local hospitals for autism spectrum disorders; and advocating on behalf of behavioral health care issues.”

Dr. Durgin shared, “The most rewarding part of my job is having the opportunity to celebrate with the individuals we serve the small, yet meaningful steps of progress while watching them grow happier and more confident in their daily lives. I also enjoy working with an extraordinary and dedicated team who make it fun to come to work every day.”

About Dr. Manal Durgin

Dr. Durgin joined Devereux Florida in 1998 as a chief psychiatrist before transitioning to the position of medical director in 2015. In her current role, she oversees the overall treatment planning and services provided throughout Devereux Florida’s continuum of care, including a child and adolescent psychiatric hospital, residential treatment centers, group homes, foster care, outpatient counseling and prevention programs. Board certified in general psychiatry and a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, Dr. Durgin specializes in treating youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities, along with mental health challenges.

The 2021 “Super Women” were featured in Orlando Family Magazine’s May issue.
