Adults at The Shops at Devereux meet the needs of local businesses
“It’s a pleasure working with Devereux. The organization stands apart as one that not only understands individuals with special needs, but also the needs of businesses to get the job done right.”
The Shops at Devereux’s Contracts department, which provides employment and training opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities served by Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Pennsylvania Adult Services, prides itself on delivering high quality, personalized services to its loyal customers. Adults in Devereux’s care who work in the Contracts department, located in Devon, Pennsylvania, perform a variety of packaging, assembly and clerical work, including stuffing, labeling and shrink wrapping, for local businesses. “The individuals we serve are engaged and dedicated workers,” said The Shops Program Administrator Kirk Smith, M.S. “Whether they are sorting, folding or boxing items, our adults are committed to completing the tasks at hand and meeting the needs of local businesses. Plus, they are learning critical job, life and social skills along the way.” Exceeding expectationsOne of The Shops’ largest business partners is Crazy Aaron’s, located in Norristown, Pennsylvania. Crazy Aaron’s makes “Thinking Putty” and other products that “inspire curiosity and wonder” in children and adults around the world. “The Shops at Devereux receives the components of our unassembled ‘Thinking Putty’ tins and performs the portioning, weighing, labeling, cartoning (packing in a carton) and palletizing (placing onto pallets) of our products on a weekly basis,” Muderick explained. “The service has exceeded our expectations for more than 10 years. The team at The Shops understands its customers, matching the right individual to the right job, and the need for consistency week after week. During my visits, I see supervisors working with individuals to build an atmosphere of teamwork and personal achievement.” Gaining hands-on experienceAdults at The Shops who work for Crazy Aaron’s are enthusiastic about their roles. Annie Swift is responsible for folding the boxes that hold containers of putty. “I’ve learned how to be patient, focus and remain on task,” Swift noted. “I like working on the boxes, being busy and earning a paycheck.” Another individual, Paul Lobb also folds boxes and places putty containers inside the boxes to be counted and weighed. “I’ve learned how to get a lot of work done,” Lobb shared. “l like putting 1,000 cans (of putty) in boxes and being busy.” Contact us today!Do you have packaging, assembly or clerical work that needs completed?
