MA/RI’s Devereux School earns NASET ‘School of Excellence’ distinction

The Devereux School in Rutland, Massachusetts, was recently named a “School of Excellence” by the National Association of Special Education Teachers for the 2024-25 school year.

Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Massachusetts and Rhode Island (MA/RI) is thrilled to announce the Devereux School in Rutland, Massachusetts, was recently named a “School of Excellence” by the National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET) for the 2024-25 school year.

The “School of Excellence” designation is the highest honor a private special education school can achieve through NASET.

“We are deeply honored to receive this recognition,” said Devereux MA/RI Executive Director Nadyia Abbas, M.A., CAGS, LMHC, LADC-I. “I am proud and appreciative of our incredible school staff – they are a dedicated, compassionate and resilient group of people who give their all every day. This designation recognizes the intentionality of our efforts to deliver the highest quality educational programming to our students, and it acknowledges the creative and innovative strategies our staff use to rekindle the love of learning in our students to help them achieve academic success.”

Enriching the lives of students

Each year, NASET selects qualified licensed private special education schools across the U.S. to receive the “School of Excellence” distinction. Award recipients meet rigorous professional criteria (as it relates to services, curriculum, admissions procedures, etc.) and demonstrate dedication, commitment and achievement in the field of special education.

Devereux MA/RI was previously awarded this honor in 2010.

“This award is a testament to the tireless efforts of our remarkable teachers and school staff who enrich the lives of our students,” explained Devereux MA/RI Education Director Katherine Flynn, M.S.Ed. “Through their passion, expertise and genuine care, they have cultivated a nurturing environment where students can thrive academically, socially and emotionally and achieve their unique potential. We look forward to continuing to ensure our school remains a model of excellence for private special education schools across the country.”
