Devereux helps employees achieve leadership potential through yearlong program

Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
Rhea Fernandes, Psy.D.

At Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health, we are committed to helping our team members enhance their knowledge and abilities, and achieve their leadership potential.

Devereux’s Leadership Class program, a yearlong class project, allows participants to explore the essence of effective leadership; define their own unique leadership qualities; and develop the skills needed to become high performing leaders.

Strong, well-rounded leaders are essential to the success of any organization,” said Devereux Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Rhea Fernandes, Psy.D. “Our Leadership Class program is an investment in the passionate, dedicated and talented team members we are fortunate to have at Devereux. We want to nurture and develop these colleagues in discovering and maximizing their talents and achieving their full potential so they can have fulfilling careers; better serve and support the children, adolescents and adults in our care; and help advance Devereux's important mission.

Empowering leadership growth

Over the course of 12 months, Leadership Class participants: 1) receive coaching to help hone their leadership skills; 2) complete assignments and projects to further their professional development; and 3) attend activities, including webinars, roundtable discussions and small group question-and-answer sessions with senior leadership.

Look below to find out how the program has helped a few recent participants develop as leaders.

“The Leadership Class truly impacted me in a number of ways. First, I learned how different aspects of budgeting and staffing affect the organization as a whole. Second, it allowed me to reflect on areas in which I needed to improve to better contribute to the organization, and showed me more effective ways of communicating the vision of our organization to other employees. Most importantly, the program taught me that leadership does not begin with a title, it begins with actions and contributions.”

“The Leadership Class allowed me to further develop my leadership style and approach. I really appreciated the opportunity to receive evaluations and hear feedback from people who work above and alongside me, as well as those who report to me. I enjoyed meeting and building relationships with colleagues from different Devereux programs. Some of the connections I made have been tremendously helpful in my current role. I also appreciated the individual coaching sessions that allowed me to focus on goals for my own growth and development, and pushed me to think outside of the box.”
– Devereux Colorado Clinical Program Manager
   Megan McGrath, M.A., LPC, RPT-S

“One of my favorite things about Devereux is its commitment to staff development. I thoroughly enjoyed the Leadership Class, and learned so much from leaders across the organization. Participating in the program, and hearing from senior leaders, many of whom have decades of experience, has been extremely beneficial to my own development as a leader. Their advice and consultation is invaluable – it is refreshing to be surrounded by leaders who are genuinely invested in the future leaders of Devereux.”
