Devereux Arizona, Spectrum Healthcare expand autism services into northern AZ

As a result of the ever-increasing prevalence of mental health disorders among youth in the state, Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Arizona announced it is partnering with Spectrum Healthcare to expand autism services into northern Arizona.

The expanded services, which will be offered via telehealth, include specialized therapy for children and adolescents, ages 2 to 18, with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Available autism services will feature individual and family counseling, as well as caregiver education led by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) that will focus on practical Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies.

“We are excited to partner with Spectrum Healthcare to improve access to services for youth and families living with autism in underserved parts of our state,” said Devereux Arizona Executive Director Yvette Jackson, LMSW, DBH. “Devereux’s team of highly skilled behavioral health professionals will support these individuals in achieving their full potential. Our ultimate goal is to help those we serve lead fulfilling, productive and socially-connected lives.”

Devereux’s evidence-based approach of integrating individual counseling, family therapy and ABA therapy into a comprehensive, customized care plan – delivered via telehealth – is designed to help meet each individual’s unique needs. In addition, Devereux offers autism-informed counseling as a standalone service to target the behavioral health needs of individuals and families served by the organization.

“Spectrum is thrilled to team up with Devereux to bring much-needed autism services to Yavapai County,” said Spectrum’s President and CEO April Rhodes. “It is through these kinds of partnerships we can help meet the needs in our communities.”

Spectrum Healthcare offers programs at various locations throughout Arizona. In addition, Spectrum’s “Anywhere Care” services meet individuals where they are in the community. The inclusion of Devereux Arizona’s telehealth autism services will allow Spectrum’s members to access services in Yavapai County.

Autism spectrum disorder is a developmental disability that can cause significant social, communication and behavioral challenges. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 1 in 44 children are diagnosed with autism. In addition, the National Autism Indicators Report on Mental Health, published by the A.J. Drexel Autism Institute in 2021, shows about 74 percent of children with autism experience other, co-occurring mental health conditions, such as attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, anxiety and/or depression.

Yavapai County residents interested in utilizing these new autism services should contact Spectrum by phone at (877) 634-7333, or via email at referrals@spectrumhealthcare-group.org.

Families interested in learning more about the diagnosis of, and treatment for, autism and other behavioral health challenges should contact Devereux Arizona’s Autism Center by phone at (480) 392-5159, or via email at azautismcenter@devereux.org.
