Let’s ‘sail-ebrate:’ 21st annual ‘Yawl Ketch the Spirit … of Devereux’ event raises $58,500
More than 150 guests had a “Nauti-Cool” night at Lakewood Yacht Club in Seabrook, Texas, for Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Texas’ 21st annual “Yawl Ketch the Spirit … of Devereux” event. The event made quite a splash, generating $58,500 for Devereux Texas’ Autism Intensive Residential Program. The program serves youth, ages 6 to 17, with moderate to severe autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and co-occurring mental health conditions, such as depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder and attention-deficit disorder. “Events like this remind us of the profound impact we have when we come together as a community to make a difference,” said Devereux Texas Executive Director Pam Reed, M.S. “We want to thank our sponsors and attendees for their kindness, generosity and unwavering support – the night was a celebration of joy and hope. Funds raised from this event will allow us to continue to enhance the quality of life of the children and adolescents in our care, empowering them to develop the critical skills they need to thrive.” Making waves for youth in needDuring the event, guests in nautical-chic attire enjoyed a delectable dinner and drinks before hitting the dance floor. An exclusive “Men on Fire,” Houston firefighter experience was offered during a live auction. The experience featured dinner for 10, a fire station tour and an opportunity to try on gear and climb aboard a fire truck. During a silent auction, those in attendance bid on once-in-a-lifetime experiences and luxury items, including a five-night stay at resort in Cozumel, Mexico, a sunset yacht cruise and a topaz necklace. The organization also sought support from the crowd to fund augmentative and alternative communication (ACC) devices for youth enrolled in the Autism Intensive Residential Program. “Approximately 60% of the youth we serve are minimally verbal. Having the right tools can make all the difference in their ability to express their thoughts, wants and needs, and engage with others,” Reed explained. “We were thrilled to raise $23,200 for ACC devices. These devices are more than just technological solutions, they are lifelines for those in our care, opening a world of possibilities for learning, social interaction and personal growth.” Save the date: Annual Golf ClassicDevereux Texas is hosting its 21st annual “Divots for Devereux Golf Classic” – also benefitting the center’s Autism Intensive Residential Program – on May 5 at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston.
