Putting others first: Devereux celebrates direct care staff during appreciation week

Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health’s committed and compassionate direct care team members work tirelessly to enhance the quality of life of the children, adolescents and adults in their care.

During Direct Support Professional Recognition Week – Sept. 8-14 – Devereux is honoring its more than 2,800 direct care staff, including direct support professionals (DSPs), direct care professionals (DCPs) and youth care professionals (YCPs) for always putting the needs of others first.

“Our direct support colleagues are passionate professionals who make us who we are and bring our mission to life by empowering those in their care,” said Devereux Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Rhea Fernandes, Psy.D. “Whether they are helping an individual develop a valuable skill, secure and maintain meaningful employment, or achieve greater independence, our direct care staff go above and beyond to help youth and adults realize their full potential and thrive. We cannot sing the praises of our dedicated and innovative direct care team members enough. We are grateful for their service and commitment today and every day.”

“Being an agent of change, an advocate and a mediator who works assiduously to ensure the needs of our individuals are met is one of the most rewarding aspects of my job. I can make a positive impact on an individual’s life and contribute to their biopsychosocial development and emotional well-being.”

“The thing I like most about being a DCP is the impact I have on the kids – the bond we form and being their support system. The best part is having the opportunity to be a spark in their lives.”

“I love working with, and helping, children because I can make a meaningful impact on their lives. I feel that – every day – I can contribute to a child’s growth and overall well-being.”
