Devereux Center for Effective Schools releases online training modules for educators and parents

Mother and childWith schools across the U.S. shifting to online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Devereux Center for Effective Schools has developed online training modules to help educators, counselors, and parents successfully adapt to this new reality and engage students and children through remote instruction.

Three series of training modules address the following topics:

Series 1: Teachers’ Guide to Engaging Students in Remote Instruction (11 modules)

  • Part 1 (6 modules): These six modules address the basics of engaging students in remote instruction.
  • Part 2 (4 modules): These four modules focus on motivating students in order to facilitate participation in a remote instructional context.
  • Part 3 (1 module): The last module addresses a model for virtual community meetings to build relationships with students.
  • Learn more about engaging students in remote instruction.

Series 2: Parents’ Guide to Virtual Instruction: How to Support Your Child (10 Modules)

  • This 10-module series addresses strategies for parents to manage the remote instruction context from home. Included within these modules are strategies to prevent (e.g., set rules), teach (e.g., use problem solving strategies), and respond (e.g., use rewards) to children’s behavior.
  •  Learn more about supporting your child’s virtual learning experience.

Series 3: Calm Cat Relaxation Skills Training (10 Modules)

  • The Calm Cat Curriculum is a group-based relaxation skills training program for elementary students with internalizing behavioral needs, such as stress and anxiety.
  • This program is designed to be implemented by teachers, counselors, social workers, psychologists, and other school-based personnel. Formal training in behavioral health service delivery is not required.
  • This 10-module series introduces learners to each of the 5 core and 4 supplemental Calm Cat training sessions, reviewing components of each session as well as tips for success.
  • Learn more about Calm Cat.

These training modules average 15-20 minutes to complete, and several modules are supplemented with example materials and handouts.

We invite educators, counselors and parents to work in partnership with the Devereux Center for Effective Schools to help students and parents navigate remote instruction. All 10 of these modules were developed by experts in the field - all master’s- and doctoral-level educators, psychologists and Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs).

The Devereux Center for Effective Schools, an established leader in the educational field, is offering the first module for free - so you can share this resource with your home and school group. Note: All modules beyond the free modules, which are the first in each series, are available for a single use fee of $150 per showing.

Invite one of our Devereux experts to virtually attend your next group meeting – to show a module and answer any questions you might have. Please contact the Center for Effective Schools for more information about pricing, consultation and levels of access.
