About #GivingTuesday
#GivingTuesday is a global giving movement happening in 98 countries around the world – and everyone, anywhere, can participate. Held annually, this national day of giving occurs the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (following Black Friday and Cyber Monday) and is meant to inspire people to improve their local communities – giving back to causes they support.

Since its launch in 2012, #GivingTuesday – which is powered by social media – has raised hundreds of millions of dollars for charitable organizations. Click here to learn more about this special day.

Program Highlight: Supported Living Services

Devereux California’s “Supported Living Services” and “Independent Living Services” (SLS, ILS) programs are designed to provide another living option for adults with disabilities who would like to live in the community.

Individuals who participate in this program have the opportunity, within their economic means, to choose who they live with and where they live. Our team helps build relationships in the community, develops inclusion practices and assists adults in meeting their daily living needs. Our goal is to help individuals live successfully within their communities and be as independent as possible. We support adults with a wide range of needs, from those who require minimal assistance to those needing 24-hour staff support.

Both SLS and ILS use a unique method of support through individualized social and skill-building activities, community engagement, and flexibility of staffing hours. Depending on the needs of each adult we support, we can provide a 1:1 staff-participant ratio, as well as shared staffing with house mates. There are a number of factors that determine which program an individual is referred for; one primary difference between SLS and ILS is the number of staff support hours:

  • ILS participants receive 20 hours per month or less of staff support
  • SLS participants receive more than 20 hours per month of staff support

Staff support may include assistance with learning/performing daily skills including:

  • Being active in the community through recreational and social activities
  • Cooking, cleaning and personal care
  • Paying bills, budgeting and household shopping
  • Scheduling and managing appointments
