Advisory Board News and Announcements

Recently, Devereux Georgia was named a beneficiary of the Atlanta Commercial Board of Realtors’ annual Spring Fling fundraiser for a 3 year commitment. The ACBR Community Service Committee and over 400 ACBR members came together May 24 at City Winery in Atlanta; raising over $55,000 to benefit Devereux Georgia and another local charity, Kate’s Club. Special thanks to F. Keene Miller, ACBR member, Past-Chair and long-standing member of Devereux’s Advisory Board, for facilitating this special partnership.

Events and Campus Activities

The annual Spring Carnival is always a hit with Devereux clients and this year was no exception! Favorites including games, cotton candy, popcorn, face paint, a rock-climbing wall, the wizzer ride, spin art, corn hole, and the newly added Kona Ice Truck, were enjoyed by everyone on campus. Special thanks to volunteers from Coca-Cola and the Atlanta Board of Commercial Realtors for assisting our staff and youth during such a fun day.

Devereux children had the opportunity to hear from former aerospace engineer, Ernie Henshaw, who worked for renowned jetliner manufacturer Boeing, and NASA, during his presentation on our campus on June 8. Mr. Henshaw was directly involved with the launch systems for the Apollo program, assisted in the computer-aided design of the cargo systems for the International Space Station, and worked on the Atlas and Titan intercontinental ballistic missile programs.

One of the biggest joys we can have at Devereux is to see the progress of our clients. On June 19, Ackerman Academy staff and the entire Devereux Georgia campus celebrated the high school graduation of Randon. Randon had his family attend the graduation as he shared his words of thanks to staff for their encouragement. Congrats, Randon! We could not be more proud of your hard work!

How YOU Can Help

Are you or someone you know interested in learning more about Specialty Foster Care? Are you interested in supporting the need for more foster care homes in Georgia but do not have the ability to foster yourself? In three neighboring Devereux counties alone, there are approximately 1,600 children in foster care, with less than 400 state managed foster homes in which to place them. By increasing the number of specialty foster homes, Devereux has the ability to better meet the needs of Severely Emotionally Disturbed (SED) children/youth in need of qualified, therapeutic foster homes, who are referred to our agency on a daily basis. Contact Community Programs Coordinator, Mia Hobdy, at to learn more about how to get involved with Devereux’s Specialty Foster Care program.

The Art of Feelings

Don’t forget to save the date for Devereux Georgia’s annual fundraiser, The Hope Event: “The Art of Feelings,” on Thursday, September 21, 2017, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The event, taking place at the Marietta Country Club, will include a silent auction showcasing artwork created by Devereux children and art donated by local artists, heavy hors' d'oeuvres, music, cocktails and more. Tickets (only $50) will be available to purchase in mid-summer. If you/your company would be interested in sponsoring the Hope Event and receive substantial recognition for your support, please contact Nedra Wooten at or call her direct at (678) 303-5256 to learn more about our numerous sponsorship levels.
