Autism Program Overview
ABA and Autism Center – The Devereux Arizona ABA and Autism Center supports children and adolescents, 0 to 18 years of age, with autism spectrum disorder and/or another diagnosis as justified by medical necessity. Treatment focuses on developing communication, social skills and adaptive skills needed to live independent, fulfilling, productive and socially-connected lives. A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) supervises all of Devereux Arizona’s ABA treatment plans.

- Accountable and effective: We use objective data and social validity measures to evaluate the effectiveness of evidence-based practices and data-based decision models to modify treatment plans.
Our interventions enhance:
- Skills: We work with each child to increase skill development and reduce challenging behaviors, which will lead to greater independence and success across settings.
- Self-determination: Our services and supports promote each child’s ability to participate in home, school, social, daily living and leisure activities, and make decisions that positively impact the individual’s life.
- Quality of Life: Indicators used in determining success include satisfaction with school and employment; community integration; social connectedness; and personal autonomy.

- Individualized interventions are designed to treat the whole person and family in the settings most relevant to their treatment needs
- Our multidisciplinary team uses evidence-based strategies, including applied behavior analysis (ABA) and positive behavior supports, to move toward optimal treatment outcomes
- Providing compassionate care by partnering with families, meeting them where they are in their treatment journey, and guiding them through the implementation process
- Treatment intensity ranges from consultation to intensive behavioral intervention
Comprehensive ABA Treatment: This intensive ABA treatment program addresses several complex skill acquisition and maladaptive behavior reduction targets across multiple domains of functioning. ABA treatment may be provided across home, educational and community settings, with an emphasis on maintenance and generalization of skills. Treatment programs include, but are not limited to:
- Assessment of skill deficits and maladaptive behavior
- Maladaptive behavior reduction
- Language and communication skills
- Social skills
- Daily living skills
- Executive functioning skills
- Caregiver education and support
- Coordination across service providers
Focused ABA Treatment: This specialized ABA treatment program focuses on a limited number of target behaviors. Caregiver education and support is provided to enhance maintenance and generalization. Treatment programs include, but are not limited to:
- Functional communication
- Social skills
- Compliance with medical and dental procedures
- Safety skills
- Functional behavior assessment
- Acute maladaptive behavior reduction
- Coordination across service providers
ACT focused social-emotional intervention: This specialized clinical treatment program focuses on improving social-emotional skills. Treatment is provided through collaboration with a BCBA and a counselor. Treatment programs may include:
- Psychological flexibility
- Social connectedness with family and peers
- Acceptance and taking responsibility for one’s own actions
- Values and committed action
- Self-confidence and self-identity
- Emotional self-control and coping strategies
School support: This service supports individuals with an autism diagnosis and their families in connecting with appropriate education services. An educational consultant may focus on:
- Navigating the special education process, including IEPs
- School-based behavior intervention plans
- Coordination across service providers
- Resources on educational guidelines
Individual & Family Therapy Services: The Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Arizona ABA and Autism Center offers individual and family therapy for children and adolescents 0-18 years of age with autism spectrum disorder. Our multidisciplinary team works together to decrease stress and anxiety, improve parenting dynamics and family systems, and teach pro-social skills that will positively affect quality of life.
Individual Therapy: This specialized individual therapy addresses the mental health needs of individuals with an autism diagnosis. A licensed counselor provides treatment that may focus on:
- Social relationships
- Self-esteem and self-confidence
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Mood disorders
- OCD
- Self-advocacy
Family Therapy: This specialized family therapy addresses parenting dynamics and family system needs for individuals with an autism diagnosis. A licensed counselor provides treatment that may focus on:
- Family stress
- Grief and loss
- Acceptance
- New diagnosis of ASD
- Transition to independence
- Self-care and self-advocacy
- Barriers to treatment
Counseling treatment options:
- Comprehensive care plan integrating individual counseling, family therapy, and applied behavior analysis
- Focused autism-specific individual and family therapy

- DOCUMENTS NEEDED: Assemble your child’s documents such as: Diagnostic report, medical/psychological reports, other service provider records, school assessments and IEP’s, etc.
- SCREENING: Review treatment needs with our Care Coordinator.
- INITIAL ASSESSMENT: Meet with the intake team. The treatment plan is individualized and based on observations, assessments, and family priorities.
- BEGIN TREATMENT: Your treatment team begins implementing interventions and coordinating with other treatment providers. Collaboration meetings occur to review progress and update goals

Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Arizona is an in-network provider with most major health plans in Arizona, including AHCCCS and private insurance plans. Please contact us regarding acceptance of your specific plan.
