Supervisory Excellence

The Supervisory Excellence Award recognizes one direct care supervisor for his or her commitment to our core values at each Devereux Center. Specifically, the award recognizes the supervisor’s demonstrated ability to foster personal and professional growth of his or her staff.  In addition, it recognizes the same supervisor for his or her demonstrated ability to provide appropriate and timely praise and recognition.  Only one award will be granted at each center.  The winner will receive an award of $500 and a letter from the President and CEO as recognition and praise for his or her efforts.

Current Award Recipient

Ha Nguyen, Supported Living Service Program Administrator

Congratulations to Devereux California Supported Living Services (SLS) program team member Ha Nguyen for receiving the organization’s 2018 Supervisory Excellence Award! Ha was recognized for her outstanding leadership, staff development and follow-through on projects and duties. With incredible attention to detail and organizational skills, Ha leads a cohesive team of managers to new heights of quality and productivity. She is skilled in thoughtfully training managers to feel confident in their roles and serves as a role model with her consistent, positive and proactive approach to management. Ha is the rock-solid foundation of a large and diverse program, and we are lucky to have her leading our SLS program.

Culture of Caring

This award is special because each Devereux center is represented by its own individual selection and was initiated in 2000.

The award honors Thomas Donovan, former Devereux trustee and Board Chair (chairman1997-2002) and reinforces our belief that Devereux must always provide treatment excellence within a culture of caring. These qualities differentiate Devereux from other providers.

This award is open to all direct care staff including teachers, nurses, direct service professionals, clinicians, and front line supervisors of direct care staff.  It is not open to management staff. The staff member must have a minimum of one year of service and be a full time employee.

The awardees will be portrayed in the 2015 Thomas F. Donovan Culture of Caring booklet that will be distributed to the Board of Trustees at their November meeting. Each person selected will receive a $500 award and a letter of appreciation from Devereux's president, Robert Kreider.

We are proud to announce the Devereux CA Culture of Caring recipient as Jose Gallegos, Personal Care Attendant, who works in the Lompoc office.  Jose, also known as Joe, has worked for Devereux CA for over 13 years in our Supported Living Program.  Joe is appreciated and liked by individuals and peers alike – largely due to his professional and respectful attitude.  During his time at Devereux CA, Joe has developed an excellent rapport with the individuals he works with. He has an intuitive understanding of people and his patience and tolerance of others seems limitless. Joe always has a friendly smile and encouraging words to offer everyone – creating a positive and therapeutic environment for all around him.  Joe is a great team player and is recognized by his peers as a role model. He is always willing to go the extra mile for the team.

Joe is a tremendous asset to Devereux CA and a kind and generous spirit.  As his Supervisor, Audra Henson, Program Coordinator explains, “It has been a privilege working with Joe these past 3 years.  I wish I could clone him!”  Joe has set the bar high for future Culture of Caring recipients, and we wish him a long and happy future at Devereux CA.
