Devereux Texas League City

Autism/Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
Residential Treatment Program for Adolescents

Devereux Texas offers a residential treatment program for adolescents with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and autism spectrum disorder. Located just outside of the Houston metropolitan area in northern Galveston County's League City, our peaceful 49-acre wooded campus features red brick colonial architecture and provides a calm, supportive environment. While in residential treatment, youth will have access to amenities, including a swimming pool, gymnasium, walking trail, playground, recreation room, kayaks and paddleboats, and on-campus dining. Our dining hall offers a variety of healthy food options and is equipped to serve those with specific dietary needs.

Devereux Texas’ League City campus is accredited by The Joint Commission.

The Individuals We Serve

Our IDD and autism program serves adolescents, ages 12 to 17, with the following characteristics:

  • Autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
  • Moderate to severe intellectual disability
  • Moderate to severe communication and adaptive behavior skill deficits
  • Behavioral challenges that require intensive supervision and support
  • Individuals with other disorders considered case-by-case based on adaptive, communication, behavioral and educational needs

The Treatment Team

An individual’s multidisciplinary treatment team will include a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), psychiatrist, nurse, teacher and program manager. Youth also will participate in a recreational program led by our certified therapeutic recreation specialist.

Our team of caring and highly skilled professionals provides:

  • On-site Board Certified Behavior Analysis
  • On-site psychiatry with board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrists
  • Round-the-clock nursing
  • Round-the-clock supervision by highly trained direct support professionals
  • On-site accredited private school
  • A full schedule of activities overseen by a certified therapeutic recreation specialist
  • Supervision and support from highly trained direct support professionals
  • Other disciplines may be contracted to meet an individual’s particular needs, as needed (e.g., dietician, speech and language, occupational and physical therapy)

Treatment Plans and Objectives

Our treatment plans are individualized to meet each individual’s needs. Treatment interventions are evidence-based, family-centered, and use a strengths-based approach to behavior change.

Our treatment program is designed to help youth achieve:

  • Maximized self-sufficiency
  • Improved ability to complete everyday tasks independently
  • Opportunity to build social connections with support in an environment based on inclusion and respect for individual variability
  • Behavior change built on individual strengths with treatment oversight from a Board Certified Behavior Analyst

Education Services: The Devereux School is a non-traditional, therapeutic program with 12 or fewer students per classroom. Course materials are taught by certified teachers with support from direct care professionals and the treatment team. We are able to partner with an individual’s school in the community to ensure educational continuity, or develop a new academic plan based on review of an individual’s transcripts, school records and strengths and needs assessment.

The Devereux School is accredited by Cognia, which is recognized by the Texas Private School Accreditation Commission.

Our Safe Space Guarantee

Devereux is proud to be a behavioral healthcare leader for the LGBTQ community. We have a rich history assisting diverse populations of individuals who need care, comfort and support – regardless of their ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.

Devereux supports educational, policy and clinical changes that create safe spaces to help these individuals strengthen their overall emotional health and well-being. We stand firmly alongside LGBTQ adolescents and adults, not only to help eliminate discrimination that exists in our society today, but to evolve our culture from one of tolerance > to acceptance > to affirmation.

Specifically, Devereux:

  • Follows workplace policies that state LGBTQ staff are to be treated equally. Our employment policies protect staff from discrimination due to their sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression, even in states where there are no LGBTQ protections.
  • Provides equal opportunity employment and benefits (including domestic partner benefits) to LGBT employees.
  • Displays images on our campuses that demonstrate inclusiveness.
  • Participates in community events to promote our services to the LGBTQ community.
  • Actively recruits, trains and supports LGBTQ staff members and foster/adoptive parents.
  • Partners with other organizations to advance the equality of LGBTQ people.

In addition, Devereux has adopted the American Psychological Association’s Gender Affirmative Model as its overarching clinical approach to supporting transgender and gender-expansive individuals in our care. This model is the emerging best practice treatment of choice, focusing on resilience, coping and wellness.

Program Costs and Insurance

Typical costs for our residential program for adolescents with IDD and autism begin at $825 per day, and can vary depending on an individual’s particular needs. Insurance can help minimize or eliminate out-of-pocket costs. We encourage parents and caregivers to contact their insurance company to learn more about their insurance benefits for residential treatment.

We accept most major insurance, including many plans through MHN, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, Humana, Magellan, UnitedHealthcare, Anthem, ComPsych and others.
We are proud to serve our active duty military members and veterans as a Tricare provider.
