Advisory Board News & Announcements

We are pleased to announce the addition of two members to the Devereux Georgia Advisory Board - Daniel Groce and Patricia A. Poulter, Ph.D.

Mr. Groce is the Communications Lead at Novelis North America and a long-time resident of Atlanta. He attended Mercer University and has worked in previous positions managing relationships with Georgia state government entities and representing large corporations in their communications endeavors. He is an active member and holds leadership roles in the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA.) During his tenure with Allstate, Daniel was instrumental in Devereux’s effort to receive a multi-year grant from The Allstate Foundation to fund our Neurofeedback Therapy Program.

Dr. Poulter is the Dean of the College of the Arts at Kennesaw State University. The College of the Arts is one of the largest schools of the arts in Georgia, and is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, the National Association of Schools of Theater and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.

Devereux is honored that Mr. Groce and Dr. Poulter have chosen to serve our organization in this capacity.

Events and Campus Activities

On November 13, an Invitational Breakfast and Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony was held on our campus to commemorate our new amphitheater and performance stage - Phase II of the “The James M. Cox Foundation” Outdoor Classroom project. The event included comments by Joe Glancy (Advisory Board Chair), Gwen Skinner, Dr. Yolanda Graham, and Hank Booth (Advisory Board Vice-Chair). The program included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and unveiling of the donor wall sign. Jennie Blake, representative of The James M. Cox Foundation, honored us by ceremoniously cutting the ribbon. Ms. Blake is accompanied by Gwen Skinner, VP of Operations, and Advisory Board members. Seated are Marion Bledsoe, Jereme Smith, Jerome Martin (architects) and Whit Russell, (consulting engineer). Following the program, guests were invited to tour the campus.

After the ribbon-cutting, guests gathered as Gwen Skinner and Jennie Blake ceremoniously unveiled the donor wall sign commemorating the generous donors and contributors to the project. The donor sign will be permanently displayed in the Outdoor Classroom. Many thanks to The James M. Cox Foundation, and the numerous donors and contributors who made the project a reality on our campus!

On Friday, October 27, we celebrated the fall season with our annual Harvest Festival. Throughout the afternoon, clients enjoyed rides, games, a rock climbing wall, crafts, popcorn, cotton candy and many more fun activities. Many thanks to volunteers from Coca-Cola, Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, and Devereux’s Advisory Board who helped make the festival extra special for our clients!

“A Celebration of Arts” school assembly held on November 16 showcased clients’ art, poetry, speech, dance and music. Nineteen students performed during the assembly in front of their peers and Devereux staff. Poetry and art pieces were displayed on the walls of the gym during the assembly. Each category was judged by a panel of Devereux employees based on a rubric of criteria. We have so many talented students on our campus!
