Behavioral Health
Residential Treatment Program for Adolescents

Devereux Texas offers a behavioral health residential treatment program for adolescents. Located just outside of the Houston metropolitan area in northern Galveston County's League City, our peaceful 49-acre wooded campus features red brick colonial architecture and provides a calm, supportive environment where youth can focus on treatment and wellness. While in residential treatment, individuals will have access to amenities, including a swimming pool, gymnasium, walking trail, playground, recreation room, kayaks and paddleboats, and on-campus dining. Our dining hall offers a variety of healthy food options and is equipped to serve those with specific dietary needs.

Devereux Texas’ League City campus is accredited by The Joint Commission.

The Individuals We Serve

Our behavioral health residential program serves adolescents, ages 14 to 17, with diagnoses and challenges including:

  • Anxiety, depression, mood disorders and suicidal thoughts
  • Learning disabilities
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Challenging behaviors
  • Medical complexities
  • Difficulty making friends and/or being bullied by others
  • Difficulty with social interactions and emotional regulation
  • Parent-child communication challenges
  • Substance abuse
  • History of psychiatric hospitalizations

Many of the individuals we serve have multiple diagnoses or have not yet received a diagnosis that accurately reflects their particular challenges. Our team listens and provides thorough assessment services to understand each adolescent’s unique situation and, most importantly, to develop a customized treatment plan to help them meet their treatment goals.

The Treatment Team

An individual’s multidisciplinary treatment team will include a psychiatrist, therapist, nurse, teacher and program manager. Youth also will participate in a recreational program led by our certified therapeutic recreation specialist.

Our team of caring and highly skilled professionals provides:

  • On-site psychiatry with board certified child and adolescent psychiatrists
  • Individual, group and family therapy with on-staff, licensed clinicians
  • Round-the-clock nursing
  • Round-the-clock supervision by highly trained direct support professionals
  • On-campus substance abuse services provided, as-needed, by a licensed chemical dependency counselor
  • On-site accredited private school
  • A full schedule of activities overseen by a certified therapeutic recreation specialist
  • Supervision and skill-teaching from highly trained direct support professionals
  • Other disciplines may be contracted to meet an individual’s particular needs, as needed (e.g., dietician, speech and language, occupational and physical therapy)

Custom Tailored Treatment Plans

Our treatment plans are individualized to meet each individual’s unique needs. Treatment interventions are evidence-based, family-centered, and use a strengths-based approach to behavior change.

Our treatment program is designed to help youth achieve:

  • Less or no need for future inpatient treatment
  • Improved ability to build and maintain meaningful relationships
  • Skills to regulate emotions and make safe choices
  • Preparation for return to the home setting with community and family supports

We build our individualized programs around Devereux Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (D-PBIS). Treatment programs utilize a variety of best practice therapies, such as:

  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
  • Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT)
  • Motivational interviewing (MI)
  • Parent management training (PMT)
  • Play therapy and artistic/expression-based therapies

Our team will support individuals’ healthy choices through the use of positive reinforcement and teach them skills for success after discharge, including:

  • Social/emotional/behavioral wellness skills
  • Life management skills
  • Academic and work experience skills
  • Healthy living skills
  • Recreation and leisure skills
  • Substance use education skills

Education Services: The Devereux School is a non-traditional, therapeutic program with 12 or fewer students per classroom. In addition to core academics, the Devereux School offers courses in foreign language, art, as well as career and technology. Course materials are taught by certified teachers with support from direct care professionals and the treatment team. We are able to partner with an individual’s school in the community to ensure educational continuity, or develop a new academic plan based on a review of an individual’s transcripts, school records and strengths and needs assessment.

The Devereux School is accredited by Cognia, which is recognized by the Texas Private School Accreditation Commission.

Our Safe Space Guarantee

Devereux is proud to be a behavioral healthcare leader for the LGBTQ community. We have a rich history assisting diverse populations of individuals who need care, comfort and support – regardless of their ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.

Devereux supports educational, policy and clinical changes that create safe spaces to help these individuals strengthen their overall emotional health and well-being. We stand firmly alongside LGBTQ adolescents and adults, not only to help eliminate discrimination that exists in our society today, but to evolve our culture from one of tolerance > to acceptance > to affirmation.

Specifically, Devereux:

  • Follows workplace policies that state LGBTQ staff are to be treated equally. Our employment policies protect staff from discrimination due to their sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression, even in states where there are no LGBTQ protections.
  • Provides equal opportunity employment and benefits (including domestic partner benefits) to LGBT employees.
  • Displays images on our campuses that demonstrate inclusiveness.
  • Participates in community events to promote our services to the LGBTQ community.
  • Actively recruits, trains and supports LGBTQ staff members and foster/adoptive parents.
  • Partners with other organizations to advance the equality of LGBTQ people.

In addition, Devereux has adopted the American Psychological Association’s Gender Affirmative Model as its overarching clinical approach to supporting transgender and gender-expansive individuals in our care. This model is the emerging best practice treatment of choice, focusing on resilience, coping and wellness.

Program Costs and Insurance

Typical costs for our behavioral health residential program begin at $650 per day, and can vary depending an individual’s particular needs. Insurance can help minimize or eliminate out-of-pocket costs. We encourage parents and caregivers to contact their insurance company to learn more about their insurance benefits for residential treatment.

We accept most major insurance, including many plans through MHN, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, Humana, Magellan, UnitedHealthcare, Anthem, ComPsych and others.
We are proud to serve our active duty military members and veterans as a Tricare provider.
