May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health wants to highlight the importance of checking in on yourself, and taking stock of how you are feeling and any symptoms you may be experiencing to determine if you need additional support.
According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, in 2020, approximately 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. 45.2 million or 18.3 percent - reported that the pandemic had a significant negative impact on their mental health. Similarly, approximately 1 in 5 adolescents ages 12 to 17 in the U.S. 4.5 million or 18.3 percent - said the pandemic negatively affected their mental health “quite a bit or a lot.”
“The past two years have been challenging for many of us. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused increased worry, stress and feelings of isolation. Now is the time to prioritize your mental health,” said Devereux Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical/Medical Officer Yolanda Graham, M.D.

Devereux Florida Executive Director Lisa Kroger was recently selected as one of Orlando Family Magazine’s 2022 “Super Women” as a result of her extensive experience as a child and family advocate. Each year, the magazine honors women who are committed to making a positive impact in the community.
Working two jobs, Lauren Penrod, who receives services through Devereux Pennsylvania, has one goal: to continue to learn as many new skills as possible. Lauren has been employed at T.J. Maxx department store in Abington, Pa. since 2015, and in 2021, she took on a second job at Giant supermarket in Doylestown, Pa.
Whether they are greeting customers, processing orders, preparing meals, collecting payments or sanitizing the kitchen and dining areas, youth at Devereux Connecticut - The Glenholme School are learning valuable job, life and social skills through The Commons, an on-campus, student-run café.
