Devereux Texas League City

Devereux Texas’ League City campus offers residential behavioral healthcare services and education for individuals with complex treatment needs.

The individuals we serve

We serve adolescents and young adults with the following characteristics/diagnoses:

  • Ages 14 to 17
  • All genders
  • Anxiety
  • Depression and mood disorders
  • Learning disabilities
  • History of trauma
  • Challenging behaviors
  • Medical complexities
  • Difficulty making friends and/or being bullied by others
  • Difficulty with social interactions and emotional regulation
  • History of psychiatric hospitalizations

As part of our continuum of care, Devereux is proud to be a behavioral healthcare leader for the LGBTQ community. We have a rich history assisting diverse populations of individuals who need care, comfort and support – regardless of their ethnicity, race, religion or sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.

Devereux supports educational, policy and clinical changes that create safe spaces to help these individuals strengthen their overall emotional health and well-being. We stand firmly alongside LGBTQ adolescents and adults, not only to help eliminate discrimination that exists in our society today, but to evolve our culture from one of tolerance > to acceptance > to affirmation. Specifically, Devereux:

  • Follows workplace policies that state LGBTQ staff are to be treated equally. Our employment policies protect staff from discrimination due to their sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression, even in states where there are no LGBTQ protections.
  • Provides equal opportunity employment and benefits (including domestic partner benefits) to LGBT employees
  • Displays images on our campuses that demonstrate inclusiveness.
  • Participates in community events to promote our services to the LGBTQ community.
  • Actively recruits, trains and supports LGBTQ staff members and foster/adoptive parents.
  • Partners with other organizations to advance the equality of LGBTQ people.

In addition, Devereux has adopted the American Psychological Association’s Gender Affirmative Model as its overarching clinical approach to supporting transgender and gender-expansive individuals in our care. This model is the emerging best practice treatment of choice, focusing on resilience, coping and wellness.

The program

Residential: Our treatment and education programs are designed to meet the unique needs of each individual. We use evidence-based interventions to help adolescents and young adults achieve success in their homes, schools and communities after they are discharged. Our treatment model emphasizes the central role of the individual and family in treatment and discharge planning.

We build our individualized programs around Devereux Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (D-PBIS). We encourage those in our care to make positive choices through the use of positive reinforcement, and we teach skills for future success after they are discharged, including:

  • Social/emotional/behavioral wellness skills
  • Life management skills
  • Academic and work experience skills
  • Healthy living skills
  • Recreation and leisure skills
  • Substance use education skills

Education: The Devereux School provides educational and pre-vocational services. Each student is assessed to identify their academic strengths and needs, and educational goals and objectives are set. The program focuses on providing positive, non-traditional education through a variety of highly-specialized services. Our ultimate goal is to maximize the potential of all of our students through academic, emotional and social growth, and promote student success in a structured, stable and nurturing classroom. Students are provided with challenging experiences that build upon their individual strengths. Accredited by Cognia as a non-public school, Devereux employs special education-certified teachers who are trained to work with students with behavioral, emotional and/or developmental disorders. An individualized education plan and/or a treatment plan is fully integrated into the overall treatment for each student, and students attend school on a year-round schedule.
