Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Center for Resilient Children announces new trauma-informed, resilience-building resource for parents and children
The product launch coincides with Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week and will feature two national training events hosted with National Head Start Association and Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youth Safety during month of May
Villanova, PA – May 1, 2016 – A leading provider of social and emotional learning tools and resources, the Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Center for Resilient Children, announced today—during Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week— the introduction of its latest resilience-building curriculum, Your Journey Together. Focused on promoting resilience among vulnerable children, and their families, Your Journey Together (YJT) provides parents and guardians with skills and techniques to promote resilience in the home.
“Like all of our resources, YJT is based on extensive research, however what makes it special among all of our assessments and resources is that it was designed specifically with parents in mind. The tools available in this curriculum will help empower parents to promote safe, trusting and healing environments—creating a strong foundation for developing their children’s social and emotional health and resilience,” says Deborah Alleyne, Child Welfare Specialist with the Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Center for Resilient Children.
The Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Center for Resilient Children selected Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week to officially introduce YJT, in order to help spread awareness of the critical importance of prevention and early intervention. “With the growing research and understanding surrounding the significant—and in some cases, permanent—effects of childhood trauma, we are proud to offer this resource for vulnerable families, with the goal of breaking the chain of trauma” says Alleyne. “Particularly when some parents and guardians have never received the help or treatment for their own trauma histories, it makes these resources even more important,” said Alleyne.
Your Journey Together also includes valuable training and support resources for professionals—YJT “Coaches”— who work directly with children and families. YJT Coaches are trained to provide step-by-step lessons, focused on strengthening parents’ and their family members’ ability to successfully cope with life’s challenges, helping instill resilience in their children so they can reach their full potential.
Following an early pilot of Your Journey Together training, a foster parent in Polk County, Florida, reported, “I learned how important it is to take care of myself to be able to stay centered and focused on my journey as a foster parent. I learned a lot about how to deal with my self-control, how my child and I can take initiative together, and how my child and I can have a loving daily relationship.”
In observation of Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week, and to celebrate the launch of Your Journey Together, the Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Center for Resilient Children is partnering with the National Head Start Association and Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youth to host two national training events featuring the Your Journey Together curriculum.
