Devereux Arizona receives hundreds of ‘sweet cases’ from Together We Rise/Toyota

Devereux Arizona received more than 300 “sweet cases” from the nonprofit Together We Rise, in partnership with Toyota Financial Services.

The sweet cases, or duffel bags, were decorated and filled with teddy bears, blankets, crayons, coloring books and personal hygiene kits.

Devereux Arizona will distribute the bags at foster care appreciation events in May. Youth from the organization’s residential treatment center also will receive sweet cases.

Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Arizona received more than 300 “sweet cases” from the nonprofit Together We Rise, in partnership with Toyota Financial Services.

The brand-new, black and blue duffel bags, which were decorated by staff at Toyota Financial Services and filled with teddy bears, blankets, crayons, coloring books and personal hygiene kits, will be distributed to Devereux Arizona’s foster children.

The duffel bags will be handed out at foster care appreciation events in Phoenix and Tucson in May. In addition, youth from Devereux Arizona’s residential treatment center will receive sweet cases throughout the year as they are discharged.

“I want to thank Together We Rise and Toyota Financial Services for their wonderful and generous donation,” said Devereux Arizona Executive Director Lane Barker. “Many youth who enter foster care have very few or no belongings to call their own. We are thrilled to provide the foster children Devereux Arizona serves with sweet cases filled with goodies to take with them into their new homes. Our residential youth also will receive the sweet cases as they leave our care.”

About Together We Rise …

Founded in 2008, Together We Rise is a California-based nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of foster children.

The organization partners with individuals and businesses, like Toyota Financial Services, to bring resources to youth and use service-learning activities to educate volunteers on the U.S. foster care system.

Together We Rise has donated nearly $20,000 worth of sweet cases, skateboards and birthday boxes stuffed with candy, party supplies and gift cards to Devereux over the past two years.

“Our partnership with Devereux began with individual centers two years ago and then expanded organization-wide,” said Together We Rise Executive Director Gianna Dahlia. “Through our partnership, we are better able to serve our mission, helping more children across the country. Together We Rise looks forward to continuing our good works together to improve the lives of children in foster care.”

Barker added, “Children and adolescents are often placed in the foster care system due to abuse, neglect and/or abandonment. When they receive a gift – such as a sweet case – from someone they do not even know, it helps them realize that someone cares about them and they are not alone.”
