Diagnostic Services

Ages: 1 year through adulthood

SPARC offers comprehensive, diagnostic services for children and families. Accurate and thorough assessments are paramount in recommending and developing effective and appropriate treatment for individuals with autism spectrum disorders and/or other behavioral concerns. In order to evaluate whether autism is an appropriate diagnosis, our diagnostic team assesses for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, anxiety, oppositional defiant disorder, intellectual disability, global developmental delay, social pragmatic disorder, and other related developmental concerns.

The SPARC Difference: We firmly believe a diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder cannot, and should not, be made in a few hours based on history and/or a one-time observation. The goal of our assessment process is to not only determine if an individual has autism, but also help the individual and his/her family understand their unique needs and strengths.

To accurately assess an individual's strengths and needs, SPARC believes assessments must occur in as many of the individual's "natural" environments as possible. Therefore, our assessments occur over several appointments, and take place in a variety of settings (e.g., clinic, home, school, day care, work). A typical diagnostic evaluation involves four to six appointments.
