Adolescent Resources

The following resources are available for teens and young adults, as well as parents who are seeking information and support for adolescent-related issues. Contact us if you would like to learn more about our programs and services at Devereux Pennsylvania Children’s Services.

Crisis Help Lines

If you, or someone, you know is facing an immediate crisis, call 911. 

  • National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: Provides free, confidential support 24/7 for anyone in distress.
    Main: 1 (800) 273-8255
    For those with hearing loss or impairment: 1 (800) 799-4889
  • Crisis Text Line: Provides free, 24/7 support and information via text. A trained crisis counselor will respond, and can help individuals cope with painful emotions and/or challenging situations. Text “HOME” to 741741 for more information.
  • Suicide Warning Signs: According to ActiveMinds.org, 67 percent of students tell a friend they are experiencing suicidal thoughts before telling anyone else. Suicide is preventable. You can make a difference by knowing the warning signs. 

Child Abuse Prevention

Human Trafficking Prevention

  • Aid in PA: Offers a collection of resources for individuals with autism/intellectual disabilities and support staff to bring awareness to human trafficking, as well as prevention and intervention strategies.

Reducing Stress and Anxiety

  • Mindfulness for Teens: Provides tools and resources to manage stress.
  • Mindfulness Apps: Apps such as Calm and Insight Timer offer guided mindfulness exercises and meditations to help individuals cope with anxiety and stress.
  • Reach Out: Provides practical support, tools and tips to help youth manage everyday issues, as well as more challenging situations.

Mental and Emotional Health

  • Teen Mental Health: Helps address the needs of youth (ages 12 to 25), families, educators, health providers, policymakers and others.
  • Go Ask Alice!: Provides adolescents an opportunity to ask questions on topics, including general health, nutrition, substance abuse, relationships and more.

LGBTQ Support

  • The Attic Youth Center: Offers a variety of programming and activities for LGBTQ youth and youth allies in a safe and supportive space. The Attic also provides education services to organizations through innovative and engaging workshops and trainings.
  • Mazzoni Center: Provides quality comprehensive health and wellness services in an LGBTQ-focused environment.
  • Child Mind Institute: Offers resources on how to support LGBTQ youth.

Healthy Relationships

  • Love is Respect: Love is Respect, a project of the National Domestic Violence Hotline, can help empower youth to prevent and end dating abuse.

Sexual Health

  • Planned Parenthood: Provides information on sex, your body, relationships and more.
  • Teen Sexual Health: Provides information on topics, including dating and sex, delayed puberty, sexual pressure, sexual attraction and orientation, virginity and making healthy choices.
  • I Wanna Know: Offers facts, support and resources for teens, young adults and parents on topics, including sexual transmitted diseases, pregnancy, LGBTQ-specific challenges, relationships and sexual health.

Substance Use

  • Substance use hotlines: Provides links to hotlines for those struggling with substance use challenges. The hotlines are free and confidential.
  • Drug rehab centers: Provides a list of select accredited drug treatment centers in Pennsylvania.
  • Free rehab centers: Offers a nationwide list of free, sliding scale, low income, payment-assisted and affordable rehab centers.
  • Addiction resources: Provides free addiction resources to individuals in need.
  • Live Another Day: Offers addiction and mental health resources for all.

Eating Disorders

  • Eating Disorder Hotline: Call 1 (866) 653-7168 for eating disorder support 24/7.
  • Bulimia: Provides resources and assistance for individuals battling eating disorders, including anorexia, bulimia and binge eating.
  • Healthy Teen Project: Provides facts about eating disorders, specifically in teens and young adults.

Employment Resources

  • Resume Builder: Offers resume tips, job-related resources and additional support for individuals with disabilities.
